“and FSD will just do the right thing” - that’d be cool if it did. It currently chooses speeds incorrectly at least once every FSD drive I do. But, it’ll get there.

As a software developer I can tell you that users will never use it the way it was intended to be used. Users will want to go faster, and to do that, they have to press the “gas” pedal, which puts it in a ”will not brake” state. Which is more dangerous, and it will also limit the adoption of self driving software. Of all things that can be automated, driving is one of the most opinionated things out there, and if it can’t drive “my way” I’ll take over. Think of all the back/side seat drivers you’ve ever ridden with.
Absolutely correct. When I drive with my aunt she always says how fast are you going? That's too fast! And I'm driving 35 in a 35 lol

For sure there will be a large amount of people that don't have the patience to allow the car to make the driving decisions.

going 35 in a zone marked 55 while clearly displaying that it knows the speed limit is 55 is hardly "picking" the correct speed...

With FSD in the possible near future we give control over to the car and it uses its "brain" to decide how to drive and get you to the destination.
But for me, I only need AP on long journeys. Rest of the driving I am more than happy to do. Wish that was an option

While in FSD or cruise, the accelerator prevents FSD from normal deceleration.
However, light accelerator usage does not disable automatic emergency braking:

As to intended use. At this point in time it is intended that the driver gives FSD Supervised feedback and oversight (Supervision).

If a car on FSDS crashes, it's usually trivial to find out if the human induced the issue via accelerator usage.

FSD Unsupervised will ignore steering and pedal inputs should those mechanisms exist, as shown on 10/10

When using FSD in my 3 I can adjust the following distance, although I can't adjust it as close as I want. In my Cybertruck I can't find a way to adjust the following distance.

The problem with this thought process (user input is always an error) is that FSD does not yet get the speed right all the time on its own. Its rather offensive and arrogant to imply the driver doesn't know best when it comes to speed.

Here in Texas FSD is frequently reading the speed signs on the frontage roads (roads along side highways) and slowing down to 45mph in the middle of the highway. Its annoying and dangerous.

Not to mention, what if its my preference to reduce my trip time by 10%, why will it not respect my speed settings? This guy is gas lighting us, or they have just made a poor choice when it comes to system design/user interface.
Nothing better than doing 45 in a 75 ? every single trip fsd does 10-20 mph under the speed limit in various areas. This is not only very unsafe, it is a failure to claim this is "intended". Because originally fsd was able to drive these roads at the speed limit and then some.... Before v12 and for years.

Sounds about right, they are on different branches of software

They've made this speed feature too complicated now. They should just have made it manual where you set it and it goes that speed still while in FSD, or if they are going to have the profiles, they should have it perhaps yes read signs along with GPS info (although that needs a lot of fixes), then adjust based on profile to Hurry=go up to 10 over to match traffic, Regular = go up to 5 over to match traffic, and Chill = go no more than the known limit.

At this point the speed issue is annoying, requires disengagement every drive for me when our limits go 75->65->55->35 into town, and it stays at 70, etc. Seems like this would have been the part to get right. I recall back in like 2015 on regular autopilot that the card slowed down and sped up automatically through small towns and worked kinda well.

They are getting rid of that they are trying to get rid of all user input. Their plan is just get in the car and it drives how it wants. The robotaxi has no steering wheel so that's what they are heading towards.

No offense meant, but the FSD program isn't aimed at your demographic. It's extremely popular with people who enjoy using cutting edge tech and video gaming. It takes a lot of knowledge and skillets to understand what FSD can and cannot do. For a lot of people, FSD is an outright hobby lol!
I don’t question your assessment. It’s a wonder why I was handed the car to take out on public roads.

I’ve driven it some with “minimize lane changes” and no nav destination. It works fine if there aren’t a bunch or intersections or forks in the road.
I'll have to try that. I didn't see a "minimize lane changes" button in the nav section. I'm sure I can find it now that I know it's there. I'm on 12.5.5.2

Do you have any items to correct in my points, or are you just trolling?

If there's something incorrect, I want to know. Tesla changes all the time, so it's fascinating to watch.

Yes.

If you wouldn't dodge a vulnerable road user, you are not a good driver.

I am not a troller. Not even sure what that is. I just noticed two things and thought I would ask. You have about 10 times more responses than anyone else ... to the point that I wonder how much time you actually sit on this site. And second ... a Tesla is not listed on your profile yet you defend Tesla accurately and consistently but ... how would you know if you are in front of a PC to do over 18,000 responses?

Just a curiosity. Maybe you are just AI
