Absolutely. Has anyone heard any price speculation for the solar option?

On another thread someone calculated price per square foot for panels and system it will use to be possibly 5k to 7k.

I love the concept but I don't think the reality will be there.

I do. It's the near perfect add - on. Doesn't do much of anything but adds a lot to the "cool" factor and can be marked up 200 - 300% over what it will cost Tesla to install it.

I really like the idea, as of now it’s top of my list of add ons. But we don’t know what else is going to be offered really. So when the time comes I will weigh the cost and benefits.

It would be really nice to have extra miles added daily. I’m pretty sure I could get a good amount being in Texas. 15 miles per day would take care of my commute.

I'd be interested if it combats the vampire draw when out in the wilderness for extended periods, even adding back some range. We disperse camp in the mountains where there's no access to power.

That's going to depend on where you are parked, the orientation, the weather (clear, hazy, cloudy, overcast), the time of year, the orientation and the vampire load. IOW, I dunno.

I do want the solar option. I hope it will be reasonable in price.

My current reservation, dual motor. Why? Tri-motor was one year more and my true needs only neede a single motor except when I go skiing. Since the tri was announced to release with the dual, I have not altered my reservation and am kicking the decision down the line.

If single is 40k, dual 50k and Tri 70, the cost of solar will compete with upgrading the motors.

If solar is 6K, why not upgrade to dual from single?

End of day, I am undecided whether to stick with dual or tri, plus FSD, intention to add solar (if cost/bragging rights ratio is in my favor) and quad if low enough to resale for profit or so low I cannot pass up. (don’t expect to get the quad)

If no change in FSD from today to release, I may remove FSD and go Tri And add FSD at a later time when I can bury the cost from my wife Until after the fact. I expect FSD will be at the level I am happy to include FSD.

0-60 in 2.9, 500 mile range versus extra energy cost and weight, increased insurance cost, 20K plus tax cost…

Hard to argue against the 0-60 in 2.9 seconds and battery range. (O-60!!!)

Concept is a fantastic idea. Hopefully they can offer it at a good price point. Live in Arizona so sun is not a problem. 15 miles per day could equal 5475 free fuel miles per year. Lets see my current truck averages 12 miles per gallon at $3 a gallon. That could give me $1300 a year of free fuel alone. Even if it landed at half that I’ll take it.

Unfortunately, you will need to compare solar cost against charging cost. Numbers are slightly lower.

I also am using fuel costs to explain how the truck pays me to own it.
