I am glad that the new Silverado is going to have a range of 450 miles and is going to release this year. This alternative to the 500 mile CT is a good thing.

While you can always find some people willing to pay just about any price for the CT, tesla needs to keep people with reservations waiting and assuming just half the Backorders take delivery that is still likely a 3-4 year wait on existing orders. I am not likely to see one myself until 2025.

I may still put in a reservation for the Silverado depending upon launch the price of the 500 mile CT. I will not buy any "300" Mile pickups.

If the initial prices are 10% or more expensive I am out.

There's NO scenario where the CT costs more than the Model S.
If we were stuck living with dealership markup and a short supply then maybe we'd see some kooks trying to get $100k for the CT like they are for the Lightning, Hummer, Bronco etc.

The only people who might end up with 6 figures for their Cybertruck are early reservation holders who flip them later this year.

Are we all forgetting that it's possible to take a loss in the beginning of manufacturing a vehicle? I think it's totally possible that Tesla decides that in the long run they can make the truck a reasonable price and just take a hit on it for a while. They seemed pretty confident that it would be cheap to manufacture.

I think the R&D is the hard part and that's about done

Tesla will always start out in a hole because of the $ spent for tooling, gigapress and R&D etc...

The $100 reservation saved our place in line and locked in the FSD price.
I assume that as soon as Tesla reveals the final CT pricing people will be allowed to respec their orders and that will lock in the price. I don't think we will see a price drop on the CT until all backorders are filled so tesla needs to price it accordingly .

My hope is that they make the truck pretty close to the origional pricing and then they can hit us with options ( 2nd screen, rear screen, solar roof etc...)that can all be added after purchase. This would make the truck more affordable and allow people to upgrade as they wish (outside the motors and battery size)

I sincerely hope you are correct. That would be awesome and fair, but I'd be really surprised if the three motor CT started below 80K.

No way is Tesla gonna jack up the price to 2.5 times the original. That's bananas. During covid, everything skyrocketed, but as we all know, shit came back down to earth. With all the innovative advances in tech and manufacturing, given that Tesla's been busy buying up lithium resources, I won't be surprised to see prices be the same as reveal night, maybe even a little less. I've been accused of being an optimist, but I've also been accused of a lot worse.
$37,860!
It's tortoises all the way down.

I think this whole stainless steel, gigapresses, etc etc might be more expensive - at first.
This is not how pricing works.

The latest Marvel blockbuster film may have cost $200m, but they charge the same ticket price on opening night as they do months later. Ticket prices do not change how “expensive” the film cost.

The Gigapress has a fixed price, the cost of which will be evenly spread across all the castings it produces over its lifetime.

Tesla will certainly iterate the CT’s design over time to reduce cost, as they do will all models. But the first truck off the line won’t cost $50,000 more just because they sunk $3 Billion into the factory so far.

Part of the cost has to be related to the battery(s). By now Tesla expected the 4680 to be cheaper, and yield more energy than the 2170s. It sounds like they are not there yet.
That's why the Cybertruck has been delayed, not why it'll be unaffordable.

And no, Tesla did not expect the 4680 cells to be more than they are - not that we know what their current energy density. The advantages in energy density in the 4680 come from the pack level, not the cell level. The 4680 is 5x the size of a 2170, and hence, contains 5x the energy. The 4680 line is a little behind the 2170 in chemistry, tho.
