The idea is that the sensation of heat in front of your body will make it feel warmer than you are.

If you don't take your jacket off, heated surfaces still work: Your jacket won't be losing heat in that direction, and so the warmth will spread to a larger surface of your body. So heated seats work better for someone wearing insulated clothing.

I don't know if the belts would work for this, but if their heating is directional they would be pretty snazzy. Like having heated gloves is handy. I would worry about reliability, tho.

First and foremost, seat belts need to hold you in place.

I suppose the whole idea is to stay comfortable and save energy over using the HVAC system, but why not design a plugin electric jacket much like the eclectic blankets? That way you won't have to take your jacket off in a frizzing cold before you get into your car, or put it back on again later.

It's also supposed to encourage you to wear your seat belt, but the car tells you do that anyway.

This seems like a solution seeking a problem. Overly complex and not in keeping with the best part is no part.

Ahh, but reduces the use of other parts, like fans and filters. And most of all, energy.

...jacket much like the eclectic blankets?
I do have an eclectic jacket, made of t-shirt material layered into abstract patterns and flowers with improbable colors. I rather like it, but it's no good in the kind of weather you need an electric jacket for.

Hehe. I was thinking of getting some glove liners. I have some rather awkward ones for theNorthFace but they're a bit stiff. The batteries are good, tho.

I don't think everyone wants to wear Tesla longjohns to save range, tho.

For some reason when quickly skimming I read that part I bolded as "Tesla thong".
Now I feel like Telsa needs to market a thong...I mean the logo is pretty much already a S3XY thong.

I'm sure someone more creative than I can come up with some good renderings.

I can’t photoshop that well, I’m making a physical mock-up. I’ll try them on when I finish them up and shoot you a picture as a DM.

I'm willing to make minor life changes, like taking my jacket off, or maybe not wearing a jacket from my door to my car, to accommodate more range and apparently be safer.
If you need more range on a cold day, just wear a down sweater and use the seat heater. The down compresses where it is in contact with the seat and allows the warmth to come through but it puffs up elsewhere and retains your body heat. You can be toasty warm with the cabin only at 50-60 degrees F.

...I usually leave the cabin at 60F...

Except when I need to defrost the windshield.
