I wish I were that powerful!
Tesla is already known to be a qualified manufacturer and the Cybertruck, when purchased in 2023, was a fully eligible vehicle, so either Tesla's submission for commercial eligibility was time restricted and they needed to file again in 2024, or the IRS system is using the New Clean Vehicle filing criteria to validate Commercial purchases.
Either way it seems from your searching that they are aware of the problem and will hopefully fix it shortly. Otherwise... file for extension and pay based on expected tax liability with the credit.

(FWIW, it's sometimes hard to differentiate social media posts about 30D from 45W. )
Someone in a cybertruck facebook group was told they passed it on up the chain and were working on a solution at corporate, but I haven't heard whether anything actually was done or not. This honestly is a pretty ridiculous situation, seems like if anyone should know the nuances of a clean vehicle credit system it would be the #1 manufacturer of clean vehicles! Ugh!

Thanks again Mongo!

Since Tesla was giving the $7,500 45W lease credit in 2024, it seems like the Cybertruck should already be known to the IRS as qualified, so it seems like a back end disconnect?

The main issue is the IRS has an automated system that checks the VIN number, somehow my VIN and many others did not get reported to the IRS, makes me think they reported only VINs after the leasing was available.

Yeah, that would makes sense. In which case, Tesla dropped the ball.

No resolution but it's progress, Tesla tax team telling my service center they don't need to do anything because their filings are for personal tax credit.

https://www.irs.gov/irb/2022-52_IRB#REV-PROC-2022-42

Here is a link straight from the IRS saying that Tesla did need to fill something out even for 45W business tax credit, so don't let them say they don't need to do anything because it's a business credit.

Section 4 of 2022-42

Part

02 Content of Written Reports for Qualified Manufacturers. The written report providing information for vehicles that may be eligible for the credit under §30D, §25E, and/or §45W must contain the name, address, and taxpayer identification number of the qualified manufacturer. This written report must be provided by the qualified manufacturer to the IRS in the time and manner described in section 6.02 of this revenue procedure. In addition, the written report must contain all of the following information for any vehicle that the qualified manufacturer asserts is eligible for the credit under §30D, §25E, and/or §45W

Resolved? IRS allowing sale reports outside of the 3 day window.

Right, Tesla (the manufacturer) needs to submit that the VIN is eligible when the vehicle is built.
Tesla (the delivery center) didn't need to do the 30D type sellers report nor run the transaction through the portal.

Yup, its the exact same thing you posted but Tesla employees refused to take it seriously without a link to the exact IRS page which I finally found.

Sounds like they don't need form 15400 and this part of what is causing the confusion.

Exactly, this isn't something the employees we interact with control. They're only trained on the portal stuff. This is a mothership issue.

Regarding the bold part, that's the link I provided in post #9 and the text I provided in post #13 ?

Did you contact he Tesla tax team directly? The service center people seem CLUELESS on anything other than the $80k/2025 personal tax credit.

That is frustrating I am sure

The nice thing is once Tesla finally gets around to reporting it, it updates in the system based on the VIN instantly and any holds or issues should clear right away.

Please update when you get a solution and what that was as tax season is here and I am sure a LOT of people will be having the same issue with their 2024s and COMMERCIAL clean energy credits.
