I would be so chuffed it they had a three wheeler! 😁

But if they do, I don't get the side by side seating. Tandem seating would get you twice the range on a tadpole trike. If it's a tadpole trike, it really needs to be a tandem setup. Front surface area could be less than a quarter of a M3 and the shape could be half the drag Cd. That's an eighth of the total aero drag created, and nearly a quarter of the amount of batteries required to move two people. Not to mention the positives of having the center of mass positioned properly for stability etc. One rear drive motor is also a good way to cut costs, and a single piece cast BIW, with PET shell would make these things just pump out.

I've always said there only needs to be two road vehicle types, van and trike. We'll see I suppose.

But dude....does that look like three wheels or just a really narrow rear track?
We raced the GREENSPEED QUAD for 24 hours at the RACV Pedal Prix in '06....it was space framed Chromoly with a carbon fibre open top body velomobile, with a narrow track rear and that thing stuck like glue around the tight Wonthaggi track. We ended the race in fourth place out of ~64 High School, Colleges, Primary Schools (youngsters didn't race at night) and privateers. We were also the oldest race team there. The following year we ended 6th.... turned 48 on that date.

Ugh sounds dumb. Or is it genius?

Since when aren't we all "transitioning" to FSD? Transition would mean have both?

Built in the same factory ≠ on the same line.
Same line = same line

From https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-initial-build-location-next-gen-ev-platform/

"According to Isaacson in another report from Axios, the upcoming robotaxi EV platform is expected to be inspired by the Cybertruck, built on the same architecture as the $25,000 car design. The EVs are expected to be similar, even using the same assembly line. However, one key difference between the two mass-market EVs is that the robotaxi may not necessarily include a steering wheel, while the passenger vehicle version would."

That's in reference to the Robotaxi and $25k car, not the Cybertruck. The Robotaxi and $25k car will be built on the same line.

Haven’t seen it posted here, but it’s all over xwitter

from a morning news with the biographer and Franz, this still picture of what many are observing appears to be the robotaxi platform mocked up for the new build approach

and the eagle eyed noticed the s etched on the far left edge

two seater with a luggage compartment in back - pretty wild if they go Bladerunner like the sketches

contra the above speculation, however, note that the previewed next Gen vehicles don’t seem to be good matches to the wooden maquette (maybe?) or the sketches

I’ve known for a bit now that they planned to do next Gen in ATX alongside MX, but wasn’t clear if MX would be the lead

sounds like Musk wants to keep lead line nearer to home

fun for Austin

the team building CT RCs and MCs will surely transition right into next Gen as soon as CT is up and humming in normal course

Chances are Elon would not have allowed those images to be published if they were representative of the design they settled on.

Decades away and yet oh so close.

-Crissa
Some people choose not to look at reality. Tech grows at an exponential rate. Even this week, MorganStanley upgraded the price on TSLA and in their justification they said that the addition of the Dojo chips were taking “months” of computer training down to “weeks”. NVidia has just stated that the latest release of TensorRT-LLM open source software will double the LLM speed on the H100 GPU (no mention of a speed increase on the A100, but it is compatible). This will get integrated into next month’s release of their NVidia AI Enterprise software suite. And Beta v11.X is close enough to believe that an improvement like we are seeing from the switch to AI learning is going to make V12 eligible for some version of FSD approval. And there are dozens of releases every month showing we are racing headlong into that capability.

And so, there is no way that we are “decades” away from FSD Any level, even 5. Look at some of the people that drive, it ain’t that hard! The future is here, whether we like it or not.

We have companies running level 4 today, and Tesla is pushing to blow past them in compute.

Decade, maybe for regulation. Not for the tech.

Arguably regulation is easier and faster to change than creating the technology.

Provided the political mothballs can accept change, and are comfortable it is safe.
