My air compressor is almost always running

I hear a constant buzzing sound when driving my vehicle, loud enough that back seat passengers get headaches. Occasionally, I also receive messages about the air compressor overheating. I brought the vehicle to Tesla, and they replaced the air compressor. However, the issue persisted, so I returned to the dealership. This time, they told me the compressor was running due to saved geolocation data and said they cleared it.

When I went to pick up the vehicle, the air compressor stayed on for around 10 minutes, even before I left the parking lot. I went back inside to speak with the service reps/techs, and they told me the vehicle is functioning as intended.

Is this normal? Does your air compressor stay on more than 80% of the time and occasionally overheat? Here’s a video showing what I’m experiencing.

It sounds pretty normal but hard to gauge how loud it is. The high cycling, on 80%, definitely isn’t normal, but I’m not surprised to see a long cycle on pickup. It could have just cooled while sitting after they tested it a bunch and the truck was just topping off.

I’d monitor the pressures for a leak. If it really stays on 80% of the time with no height changes, you’ll probably be able to see that pressure drop real time in service mode or at least quantify the drop overnight.

Sounds like a leak, not a problem with the compressor. Turn it off wait for it to turn off. Then listen for a hiss.

In most cases we’ve seen on the forum in the past the issue has been exactly what the SC told you it was.

Have you cleared your GPS lift locations? Almost certainly it’s doing it there at the dealership because it was lifted there to test your problem. So unless that location was rejected as being saved then there’s no question as to why it’s doing it in that location.

If like many of us you were playing with your truck when you first got it and raising it at stoplights and things of this nature all of those things get saved unless you’re very quick on the draw to tell it to not save that location. And then it remembers those indefinitely ,so everywhere you’re driving that you raised suspension it’s going to do that all the time until cleared.

Have you taken it into service? That’s not normal and will definitely burn out your compressor eventually.

I took it to the service center and the answer was normal.
But what you described isn’t normal you turn your car on and then your compressor runs for 5 to 7 minutes and then cuts out for no reason? Like, you’re not even driving anywhere?

I can't recall but maybe service menu can give a deeper picture into its run time.

Every time I start and drive, that sound appears for 5 to 7 minutes and then stops.

mine was like this as well. Eventually, I got a warning that my air suspension was unable to adjust (usually when going onto a freeway). Service swapped my air compressor for a new one and I no longer hear it running for like 10-15min.

That’s just really curious. Can’t believe they told you that was ā€œnormal.ā€ I don’t believe I would accept that explanation if I were you.

What ride height do you use? I was using high a lot but it auto lowers incrementally as you speed up. Then each time you slow down it pumps back up. I realized it was a stupid cycle and put it on low for city driving.
