Agree about MyQ. Just brought FS Beast home Saturday. Have updated myq hardware. Seems to connect fine. Live in a suburb w good home wifi. Initially seemed cool but it’s spotty at best. Not horrible but homelink better to me.

Unfortunately Tesla does not support myQ gates. If they can manage to add support for myQ gates, my personal situation would be improved greatly. As is, I can't get into my driveway without a clicker. The garage door works well through myQ.

To be clear, myQ itself does support gates and I can operate it with the myQ app. Tesla's implementation does not support myQ gates.

There are probably lots of folks in south Texas that have ranches but can't operate their gates with Tesla's implementation.

Also all those folks in gated subdivisions are probably not likely to even get their gates on myQ to access their subdivisions.

The best solution would be to implement gate support with myQ (for me) AND offer some sort of home link functionality through a 48V? addon so that everyone can have the functionality they need.

Thought I'd chime in with my experiences with MyQ. When I first started using it (7 months ago), it worked great and I was happy with it (minus the fact that it's a subscription). But things got worse over the past 2-3 months.

Overall, I think it's a product that was built by a company that clearly does not have solid software architecture and development skills.

The MAJOR SECURITY issue MyQ has is: it will automatically reopen the garage door shortly after leaving my house. I've determined it's due to the MyQ servers not keeping track of the state of the garage door position and when a 'close' command was sent from the vehicle. Specifically:
  • When the 'close' command is sent, at the top of the CT screen, you'll see a 'closing' animation. Eventually, it will change to 'closed'.
  • HOWEVER, if I keep driving away from my home BEFORE it says 'closed', 70-95% of the time it (MyQ or the Tesla software?) sends another command to the garage door. This results in my door opening. The only way I know this is when the MyQ iOS app sends me a push notification 10-15mins later telling me my door is open.
    • Oh, and sometimes I get the 'garage door left open' push notification from MyQ when my door is actually closed. WTF.
  • When this issue occurs, sometimes the status of the door on the Tesla screen shows either: 'closed' or "failed'.
  • The ONLY WAY to ensure MyQ doesn't randomly open my garage door is making sure it says 'closed' before I leave my driveway.
So, with a complete lack of trust in MyQ, I've setup a spare indoor webcam that I had in my garage so I can visually see if my door is open or closed when I get push notifications saying my door is left open. If it's open, I'll use the MyQ app to close the door.

Now, I think the root cause is a slightly weak WiFi signal at my MyQ hub...but my webcam streams fine in 1080p and that takes more bandwidth than a MyQ command. Also, I haven't changed the location since I installed it 7 months ago and this issue started happening about 2-3 months ago. And my WiFi mesh network / congestion / etc. has not changed. I'm in the process of changing the location of the hub to see if a better WiFi signal improves this.

To me, the fundamental issue is: the MyQ servers don't do a good job of tracking the state of the door or recent 'close' commands. And, sometimes, the hub loses the state of the door (opened vs closed).

If anyone else has encountered and fixed this issue, would love to hear how you fixed it.
Update on my situation (for those that may be interested): I changed the location of my hub to be a few feet higher on the same wall and it seems to have fixed my issue where the door would auto-reopen shortly after I drive away. I'm assuming this is due to a slight increase in the WiFi signal strength...but weird it took several months for it to develop (as nothing has changed in my garage to degrade the WiFi signal).

Been trying to get MyQ to work for a year. In my Rural area where cell phone coverage is poor at best, it just doesn’t work. Tried changing router on MyQ hub two days ago. Nightmare, since then have spent over 20 hours trying to get it to work. Time spent with MyQ tech support, three hours, resulted in worse problems and resulted in all manual clickers are now non-functional. SOMEONE NEEDS TO “YELL” in Elons ear” MyQ is not a solution, but is a problem. I WANT HOMELINK, it may not be high tech or sexy, BUT IT WORKS!!!!!!
I have had mine for 4 days. So far it has worked flawlessly.??

I have had MQ fail to close the door after repeated attempts and instruct me to use the hard-wired Wall switch. That's a problem if we aren't home. What if Amazon delivered in garage and couldn't close the door?

I always either use the app (“hey Siri” on my watch) or the CT app works flawlessly on my garage doors. Have to pay a MyQ membership fee but it works so well that I dont mind. If you don’t pay the membership fee MyQ won’t work.

I have been sending Tweets and emails to Tesla asking they add Gate Support to MyQ. I have a Liftmaster MyQ Gate on my carport where I park the truck. I put the gate opener in specifically for the Cybertruck because the website says you just need a Tesla and MyQ garage opener to be compatible. It wasn’t until after I installed it I found forums mentioning it didn’t work. There are enough people in for forums if everyone sends messages asking it be supported it will likely get attention.

I have both the Tesla solution and MyQ.
If you have good cell coverage, MyQ works great, and has the added bonus of actually knowing if your door is open or closed, and being able to open/close from anywhere - the Tesla one does not and will close the door if it's already open when you arrive. Slightly annoying!

The Tesla solution also has a slight edge in that it'll automatically open the garage if you turn on self drive in a closed garage.

We have 3 Teslas, so a single 10 year MyQ sub for the same price as the Tesla option is a no-brainer IMO.

Again, if you have good cell coverage, the MyQ works great.

We simply need HomeLink in the vehicle. That’s the SOTA and the gold standard. It’s available for every other Tesla and it’s a abomination that we don’t have it. MyQ is not an improvement and it’s not a substitute.

So this is entirely true but unfortunately less likely to get fixed by Tesla.
In the interest of helping to provide constructive solutions though, here are a couple suggestions. I didn’t buy one of these so I can’t really give an impression of it, but I saw this on Etsy which looks rather interesting.

I wouldn’t have chosen round buttons there but the mount location is pretty cool.
also, if you have an auxbeam or similar like I do for controlling other stuff off the frunk powerfeed, those switches can be set individually to momentary so if you were to hardwire one to your garage remotes to the Auxbeam controller and plant it next to the buck converter or Auxbeam brain under the frunk tub, you’d have a fairly slick button solution from within the cabin.

Yeah, really good design … right up until those circular buttons. Why would I want my steering wheel staring at and judging me all day? 🤣😂🤣😂

Tesla Cybertruck MyQ is terrible, does no one have the guts to tell Elon IMG_3745

Unintentional anthropomorphism aside, this is a very clever solution and looks like they can customize for compatibility to suit your needs. Great find!

This is one of those weird decisions, like only supporting Zoom, that Tesla has done. I get the whole monthly reoccurring revenue and hope someday they'll have a better or alternative solution.

The issue isn’t cell coverage, I have great cell coverage and I am on Wifi. Tesla didn’t implement Gate Control API in the in dash MyQ app. It is a simple addition to fix the problem.

Message @Elonmusk @Cybertruck @woodhaus2 and @wmorrill3 on X and put in a request in the Tesla app. Perhaps they will listen and add it.
