I was hoping they were going to talk more about the metal composition analysis from the XRF. Interesting that different metals are used on the front vs sides, but it would be nice to finally know alloy composition percentages so we can compare them against other known SS alloys.

I'm no metallurgist, but as far as I can find, series 301 SS doesn't contain copper, but series 304 does for added corrosion resistance. They were shooting some kind of appreciable copper content on the front of the truck, but I thought I heard 301.
Yeah I think this is the first time I've heard anyone actually doing a scientific probe of this and it was glossed over.

it's always a chuckle reading people's response to anything Tesla and the CT amps this up. The reality is that EV pickup market has very distinct vehicles whether you are talking Hummer, R1T, Lighting or Silverado/Sierra. Unlike the ICE pickup market, they are each so different from one another that we end up with a fascinating selection of choices to make. It doesn't make sense to rag on any one of them since there is someone who is going to be thrilled with it. For example, my initial reaction to the Hummer was that it was silly until I saw how serious off-roaders thought it was fantastic. To each one its own...

Overall nice review, but 0.75g on the skidpad is terrible; far worse than the R1T on all terrain tires in the same venue. I have been hoping for better in instrumented tests, because that would be an issue for the curvy mountain roads I do most of my driving on.
I think the CT stability control is probably a work in progress. I have made the tires slip just turning sharply on a wet road at slow speed. There’s a fair amount of body roll even in their firm setting so that’s probably part of it. Even Rivian has taken many years to refine their suspension and it still can’t handle certain types of bumps without disturbing harshness.

Video nuggets IIRC:
  • Areo 1.3% improvement with wheel covers
  • Areo 10% improvement with tonneau cover
  • Wiper shifts 3% (?) at highway speed for areo - news to me but perhaps an aging memory
  • 250-mile range at 75 mph
  • A-pillar area gets in the way of seeing people on moderate corners [other interviews say the small triangle glass does very little from the driver's seat/eyes ... vs passenger camera angle)
  • Curved frontal area had copper in the composition (presumable because they needed to bend and *glue* it substantially)
  • People 6'4" in the rear seats hit their heads (bumps, etc). I have friends and relatives ~6'3"

That section should have just been deleted from the review because it is simply wrong. A junkyard for trustworthy analysis? A magnet is enough to show that a reading of 301 is incorrect. Those machine are not always right, especially if not properly calibrated, so I would also question the procedure and settings they used.

So the 7% of people over 6' should be careful about sitting in the back seat, let alone the under 5% who are not under 6'4".
