Skepticism is clearly warranted. But at least their claims are testable. Either they deliver an electric motorcycle with 370 miles of range in 1Q 2026, or they don't. We shouldn't be in suspense for very long.
I'm not in suspense, and you shouldn't be either. Suspense is a state of not knowing.

It's obviously just hype. It's a scam.

Interview with the CTO, claims that third party testing has been on going, more to come. Interview starts around the 20 minute mark:

People who get taken by this apparently don't know how to process information correctly. This so-called miracle battery is going nowhere fast. It's just hype, obviously.

I wish it were true, but I also wish there was no poverty or sickness.

Electric Viking is calling bullshit.

He was one of the first guys to highlight the battery at CES and he is now (somewhat) calling BS. Like he said we will know soon.

I am trying to figure out the motivation. I wouldn't think anyone is stroking checks to these guys without a lot more information and a working model. Just to go to CES and play bigshot? Yeah, I am sure Marko Lehtimäki got invited to some nice parties... but they aren't that nice.

Electric Viking is guilty of spreading more battery hype than anyone. I guess he got enough push back on this one to make another video.

If the Donut battery turns out to be disappointing -- and yes, this is entirely possible -- it should be an embarrassment to CES and CNET. Because it was one of the finalists for an Official Best of CES 2026 Award, as determined by "more than 40 tech experts from CNET Group":
Promising huge improvements in energy density, charging speed and safety, solid state battery tech is a holy grail for electric cars, home energy, drones and a host of other applications. Donut Lab is first-to-market with a solid state battery in a production EV which can be found in partner Verge Motorcycles’ TS Pro Gen 2.

Surprised that nobody here has mentioned the other hot EV technology displayed at CES 2026: Jitlife Rideable Luggage. Jitlife claims to provide significantly more speed (up to 8 mph) and range (up to 6 miles) than any other carry-on EV. Sure, a Cybertruck is faster and goes further -- but can you stow it in the overhead bin?

Elon Musk on mass production of new technology, ""The extreme difficulty of scaling production of new technology is not well understood. It's 1000% to 10,000% harder than making a few prototypes."
Enough said.

If they made a single cell that meets all their claimed specs it would be a game changer and every battery company in the world would be banging on their door. Production at scale will likely not be an issue if they've done what they claim.

While we are all skeptical about this announcement it's important to consider that if this is all fake it involves a lot of people working for at least three different companies in three different countries:
Donut in Finland, Verge in Estonia, and Watt Electric Vehicles in the UK. They would all need to be in on it, and to what end? It will quickly be exposed and all reputations ruined at the least, possible criminal charges if they've entered into deals with other companies and fail to deliver. No one is going to throw serious money at them without getting the cells independently tested. Seems like a huge risk for not much return, maybe a single psychopath could make such a play but multiple people in multiple companies?

Verge and Donut have the same people involved. Watt I’m not sure.

It might be "real" but still not what we think. For instance, mass-production could be a problem.

I've seen some online suggest that it's actually a supercapacitor, which can meet those specs but with a rapid self-discharge.

Then again, we've been fooled before. Remember Trevor Milton and "Nikola"?
