Early on with the Model 3 many folks were freaked out because there is no instrument cluster in the usual place in front of the steering wheel. People kept saying..........I don't think it's safe to look to the right when driving instead of straight ahead. I remember that setup feeling odd.........for the first 5 miles. Haven't thought of it since and you no longer hear that discussion. The screen on the Model 3 is sooooooooooo much better. Point is don't go changing things around on human beings now, they don't dig that sh*t. I imagine the response will be similar with the camera/mirrors on the Cybertruck. Oh, no, I have to look up and to my right..........rather than up, to the right, and to the left.......how on Earth will I ever manage? Anyway, traditional mirrors on a motorized vehicle suck...........out loud..........And of all the battles Tesla has fought and won to get past the Oil Industry, dealing with the current mirror laws is rather trivial.......

I’m fine with an alternative solution as long as it works. The fender mounted cameras by themselves simply won’t work for towing.

Side mirrors are simple, cheap, and work just fine. Having said that, they’re an aerodynamic mess. I’ve got no problem leaving them behind. However, they really are needed for towing. I’m fine with an alternative solution as long as it works. The fender mounted cameras by themselves simply won’t work for towing.
please explain how they will not work? seems this is based on no actual facts just feelings

you my friend are the one bending light is you think your 12" mirror extention sees behind your trailer.
The most basic high school geometry explains why tow vehicles use wide mirrors. A wide angle camera won’t solve anything. The wide mirrors aren’t to see behind the trailer, they’re needed to see around it. I don’t mean this question to be rude at all, but what’s your experience towing large trailers?

you are simplly not informed. Maybe you needed to go to university. I have driven semi, towed with a f-350 down to my Dakota everything from a small utility trailer to a 25' goose neck

If you were that experienced, you wouldn’t be so hopelessly wrong.

Go take a look at that semi you drove. Look at the mirror width versus the trailer width. They had to hang ‘em way out there for a reason.

Having pulled a gooseneck trailer for a lot of years with my F350 diesel dually I have to say that I am skeptical about the angles with the cameras. Doesn't mean that angle is necessarily as limited as you might think. Physics is only intuitive the more you know. Like everything else. My prior work with the physics of camera and mirror angles has some limitations. Skepticism with an open mind, it's not just for breakfast anymore.

I'm surprised to see no one mentions the Chevy Silverado with the "Invisible trailer" option in this missive. Maybe i just skimmed past it too fast?

IF Tesla software ends up opensource - a 3rd party could add a camera to the back of your own trailer to wireless connect the dash unit or other small screen mounted on/near the dash. Anyone know: Will the CT sport a "real" rearview mirror or will it be a small display to a camera output from somewhere?

From my experience with trailer towing pop out mirrors were a must. But the invisible/trailer mounted camera looks like a WAAAY better option. Would love to try that.

Cameras don't need to be as wide out as a mirror for the same view. A mirror reflects light to your eyes... so the path is from object to mirror to your eyes ( is the to your eyes part of the path that dictates the need for the mirror to be wide out) This is why a curved mirror doesn't need to be as far out as a flat mirror. The path for a camera is curved (wide angle lens). Image manipulation ( objects are not closer than they appear) screen to your eye. The problem with cameras is not field of view or visibility, they are far superior on both, it's that intuitive depth perception is lost on unspecialized screen displays.
