It is not just another halo product, it is just Tesla couldn't build that many in the first year, and they are physically constrained as the ramp goes up. They are only able to make about 30000 trucks in 2024, which is probably only enough to cover the top skus reservation. Once we get to 2025, Tesla will need to sell this truck in volumes to the average Joe.

The Cybertruck is designed to be built at a volume and a low cost. The design shows it. It is designed to be sold in millions for decades to come. Tesla also knows that to sell that kind of volume, it just needs to be cheap.
Exactly! I'm surprised most people don't understand the price will come down over time, just as fast as it needs to in order to fully utilize and optimize installed production capacity. Lower prices equals higher addressable market.

There will be at least one or two reconfigurations of the production line before they add another and double production capacity to 500,000 per year. It might take until 2027/2028 to reach that number but that's largely a function of how much learning is required to build a vehicle utilizing such revolutionary construction techniques and technologies. By taking it slower, efficiency is increased.

In fact, the high prices for the first year will help amortize their development expenses sooner and allow them to lower prices further than if they had followed the path I predicted and kept low prices at the launch.

If Tesla were to sell the truck for 50k. Then you would see massive flipping for 100k+.

Now that they are charging 100k off the bat. Then Tesla can keep that profit.

Price will for sure come down eventually.

Too bad for those with multiple reservations hoping to make an easy dollar.

I understand and appreciate all that has gone into bringing this product to market but the CT in now unaffordable and unjustifiable for me at this time.

When I reserved my CT it was because I was ready to replace my Silverado which I bought new in '08 and was rusting off the frame. Comparable new Silverados were in the $50k-$60k range and would still be subject to corrosion. The dual motor CT fit my needs for a pickup, wasn't subject to corrosion, and would do 99% of what I need to do with a truck.

At the time interest rates were less than 4% and my budget could handle the payment. I was skeptical that the production time and price would stay at $50k but I remained hopeful.

I even remember discussions on this forum of buying the dual-motor and then spending another $20k on two powerwalls equaling the purchase price of the tri-motor. This option was in my mind and I seriously thought of doing this.

When the CT was finally delivered the price jumped 60%, interest rates are closer to 8% and insurance is looking like it will be close to $400 a month. In the meantime my income didn't jump 60%.

It really wouldn’t make sense for Tesla to sell a truck that undercuts the competition by $30k, when demand is overwhelming. But I still wanted them to do just that.

Surprised? No.
Disappointed? Yes.

Price adjustments? Tesla will sell every truck it produces for the next 2-3 years due to high demand. A design refresh probably won’t happen until 2030 or so.

2030 is far too soon for a company like Tesla to restyle the design on such an elegant and ground-breaking design.

Tesla will address any weak or problematic engineering while leaving the aesthetics largely unchanged. They will focus more on updating the production line and methods, not so much the design of the truck, except as it relates to building it. I can see the basic design being largely unchanged for well over a decade.

The great thing about Tesla is they address any pressing issues ASAP and without any fanfare while legacy auto loves to make little styling changes every 2-3 years (or sooner) so products already sold look noticeably out of date. Tesla doesn't really do that, at not not at the same frequency.
