I really love the fiber optic lights in the headliner.

For the light show I would rather just put a cover up and install some sort of projector. It is more flexible and would allow you to change the animation now and then. It could be installed inside the driver side head rest and point upward without being visible. There are pico projectors out there the size of a tin of gum.

Edit: By "inside the headrest" I mean inside a cover over the headrest. I have white seat covers and I could easily squeeze in a pico projector without damaging the OEM seats. Then just run a USB cable under the seat cover for power.

Yeah. The projector thing is what I did in the model x for a long time and it was great. In that car it was under the usb plugs on the rear of the center console. I spent a hella long time figuring that out and making it look awesome by trial and erroring various projectors and slides till I was finally satisfied with it even an inverter to use a higher power device. Kids really loved it too.
After I did the Cybertruck fiber optics, my wife was like ā€œhow come you get all that and I just get a projector?ā€.
You can’t win.
So then I dropped way more money doing the lights in the x as well.
c’est la vie

That plaid part (which is confusingly named starry sky probably not by accident) wasn’t done by a guy. It was a Tesstudio part @CT_AZ_4x4 and I have installed about 5 times now. lol. Likewise with the mirror. We may be the most experienced s92 troubleshooters in the world at this point.
They even used it in their little YouTube promo.

Please note they had nothing to do with the stars, it’s not a product they sell or ever sold.
You’d easily be forgiven for thinking that based on the video title and the product names though. Pretty sure that is as close as i ever want to come to being a YouTuber.lol
No no, your starry sky - the fiber optic ones you have were done by a guy you know you said. You bought the "plaid" one and were considering replacing the plaid one with a let's call it "shooting star". See if your guy who did your fiber optic one can drill holes in the plaid to add some shooting stars to it. Your plaid and the new one you wanted both roll up so they have to be flexible, so if it's possible on one I can't see why it wouldn't be for the other.

So that’s mostly right. The plaid thing does not roll up. It’s fairly rigid. It’s basically two sheets of thin let’s say plexi-like material sandwiching a film which is electrochromic meaning it becomes clear when current is applied to it as well as the colored LEDs that make up the plaid thing. That whole assembly is surrounded by an alcantara frame. It had to be shipped in a giant awkward box slightly larger than the Cybertruck roof glass.
If you drilled into it you’d puncture the electrochromic film and fuck it up.
The short clip I posted didn’t fully show this but it’s never completely clear which is the one downside.
For example, I like to take the kids to sit at the edge of the runway and watch planes.
Ever since I installed that, we can see planes through it but you can’t clearly make out the landing gear or what position the flaps are in. Doesn’t really matter because we all sit up front but it illustrates the point.
The roll up one with the shooting star would also restore being able to look directly through the glass.
So there are pros and cons to both.
The downside to switching would be losing some of the trashy limo vibe my family and I have come to love about bandit. Here is a clip. It’s no lightsaber fight but it’s fun nonetheless .

I should make some new clips. Pretty sure I’ve posted that one before.

I don't think I've seen that clip. So adorable man, there is nothing that can brighten your day more than kids being kids and that innocence. Just thank god it wasn't baby shark, at this point it's like a trigger for me that makes my hair stand up.

Ah I see, so drilling it would destroy it. It sounds more like you're trying to convince yourself of the reasons you need the new one. So before I answer, my question to you is : which do you do more? - things like look at planes where you need the visibility or turn it into a disco like the video above. From a kids perspective, I'd assume the one you have now is a lot more fun for them since you already have stars too.

Yeah. You’re right. Think I’m gonna stick with this one. Maybe donate the $1600 to the local chapter of dentist lives matter.

I think your current setup is infinitely cooler. I would do the exact same mods tomorrow if I wasn't so lazy about pursuing it.

Some day there will electrochromatic glass that functions as a super efficient solar panel.

If they were clear or just lightly tinted black, I'd get one in a heartbeat. I use the sun shield from Tesla for the roof but nothing for the windshield. It's just too unweildy to put something there and the chances of screwing up that dash pad waaaaaaaaaaaaay up there is just too high to make the juice worth the squeeze.

NOTE: I'm nowhere near Arizona.

One more subtle pro I didn't mention. My current setup is enjoyable to some extent from outside the car. Nobody really cares what the car looks like from a chopper but I enjoy this little visual tidbit at the bottom of my cybertent back window view.

@hemiarch let us know what you decide on. Is @CyberGlow better than the competition? Honestly, I’ll probably go with whatever you recommend lol
