here's the thing: MDR is perhaps sloppily communicating what the informant - who purports to have ridden in a CT - said of their experience. and compounding that potentially sloppy communication from MDR, the informant themselves may not be a terribly detail-oriented person in the first. As I listen to the information, and ignoring who was tweeting/x-ing the information, what was actually said was; The display will show the actual height, not just high/med/low. "As an example..." This is about the UI, not the limitations of the vehicle. If the CT still goes to 16", then at 14.5' would you classify that as High or Medium? And remember, he only lists H-M-L as the other option. (That doesn't exactly instill confidence in the intel to me) If we are talking literally, for that to be a M setting, you'd be looking at 29" of clearance. That's crazy. 14.5 is just over 90% of 16, so to me that would still be in the "H" range. But again, it was just an example, not a feature or limitation. The more valuable intel (if true) is that it displays the actual height.
regardless of any of those complications, there's still this: the informant almost certainly has no idea what UI version they were looking at - and still recently both the UI and even key vehicle stats are undergoing changes.
which is to say, the informant (and MDR) was at best reporting what was in *that* UI/vehicle
and on top of that, I've had the opportunity to see some of the UI of a CT - but I know it to not have been the final UI (even if recent). nonetheless, what I've seen gives me enough confidence that MDR/his informant are sloppily conveying not entirely accurate info of *even* the version the informant saw.
- the CT UI I saw *did* define the clearance (in inches) associated with each available height setting
- *but* there were more than 3 height settings (maybe this informant saw a *particularly* old UI)
- *and* those settings/clearance measurements I saw don't quite line up with what MDR is reporting (which isn't surprising given MDR doesn't report the same number of height settings)
I'm sorry to be annoyingly cagey about this. but my reasoning for doing so is identical to my critique of MDR/his informant above: while I know what I've seen, I also know it wasn't final nor necessarily indicative or relevant to what ultimate release UI/specs could be.
to relay details of what I saw, even if showered in qualifications, would inevitably lead folks to be confused and riled up over info that has a still material chance of changing before ultimate release.
unlike MDR, I wont be citing to a decimal place in inches (incorrectly) the different setting clearance (incorrectly), of a UI that probably wasn't final, in a truck still being modified for some key specs (like clearance, possibly) ... that stuff is best left to the clout-chasing influencers looking for impression-dollars on xwitter
what various bits of CT info ive gleaned by living in austin, for which i feel far more confident are hard-wired and unlikely to change (e.g. no midgate), I've tried to share without too much annoying subterfuge. (especially for those paying attention)
but there's a bunch of other stuff ive seen that continues to change, even this late in the game. i could tell you something true today, that doesn't remain true tomorrow. nobody needs that added to the CT frustration pile.
