You should take the time one day to read the full terms of service for using Android or iOS software.

It will blow your mind to realize the amount of raw data being harvested from you every minute of every day.
You seem to be arguing that “complete privacy is impossible, and therefore any privacy is pointless”. I’m sure that’s not what you mean?

I am aware, but again, I don't use my phone to transmit most of the data to which you are referring. I'm old school like that.

The problem on that front is that whether we do or not so much of it is already transmitted electronically without our knowledge.

None of that though has any bearing on the unprecedented breach of protocol/security we’re seeing with this unelected car salesman basically infiltrating secure government data centers under the guise of some broader efficiency enhancement banner.

Plenty of low hanging fruit and meaningful efficiencies that could be gained without any of what he’s doing right now. For example the first sane thing he mentioned was getting rid of the penny.

I’d love to see his reaction if some liberal POTUS gave his favorite bogeyman (something like ACORN or George Soros) unfettered and unmonitored access to all of this data. Though I would be just as appalled under that hypothetical.

This is the same SOB who freaked out because a kid was tracking actually freely available government data about his flights by hysterically screaming that he was giving up his “assassination coordinates.” The histrionics around that were deeply embarrassing!

Anyway, I guess: “Data security for me, not for thee!”

Sycophants incoming, I’m sure! Their hero worship is one thing; seems like he’s starting to believe their hype more with each passing day. 🫤

My friend, my point is that the data is harvested even if you don't voluntarily enter it into your phone lol. The amount of companies and people out there who have your private info is staggering. Best thing I always tell people is to not worry over it, but have good insurance.

You seem to be arguing that “complete privacy is impossible, and therefore any privacy is pointless”. I’m sure that’s not what you mean?
Nope, just keeping it real. Most people are either oblivious or in utter denial about both the capabilities and normal functions of their cellphones.

If you sell your car because of lies being spread about the CEO of a company, you are no "fan" lmao. You guys need to stop caring what people think. Let the fragile people break over nothing-burgers and move on.

By what magic? Seriously, name the technology in my phone that can read things I write down or enter into my computer while it's in my pocket. Do you think I stand around reciting my SS number and bank account numbers so my phone can "listen in"?

I've never been a "fan", I'm a rational person who can see and hear what Elon does, much of which I used to agree with, now, not so much. I care most about what I think.

Not so much your phone but back of the house of every transaction that you make whether you do it on your phone or even online. Mortgage, e-filing taxes, credit cards any loans, escrow. The data is out in the wild whether you put it there or not.

It’s being sold and bought freely in ways that are unsettling. That ignores all of the breaches that have happened over the last five years which include just about everything there is to know about you.

I disagree. Our government has been overlording tyrants to us for so many decades, that nearly 100% of congress are blatantly committing insider trading right in front of our face. Imagine what else we aren't seeing.

I say give the DOGE team full, unfettered access and let's allow the public to see what they have been doing behind closed doors. Open it all up. No secretes are too damning. Have you even taken a look at what they have found already? USAID has been rubber stamping billions for years. A good chunk of it to literal terrorist organizations.

And I don't want to hear about "nAtIoNaL sEcUrIty" either.

Then we will fundamentally disagree on this point. There’s no connection between illegal insider trading which should be outlawed (stopped by McConnell iirc) and what we’re seeing here. Either as a justification or solution.

Again, I don’t do this party shit. Republicans are certainly no angels and are have NEVER in power been fiscally responsible.

This government is the enemy bullshit is also bullshit. The US government is US citizens working. Never been anything different than that. The slogans, the bumper stickers, the bathtub drownings - total bullshit.

This is getting too political though. Time to refocus.

I think the topic, if I recall, was that “the cybertruck would be the last stainless steel Tesla!” 😂🤣😂🤣

I’m just gonna say “probably”, and then refrain from other discussion that’s outside of that!

Tesla Cybertruck Cybertruck will be the last Tesla to use stainless steel exoskeleton IMG_3136

"my heart goes out to you" *pantomimes grabbing heart, and throwing it to the crowd*

"zomg, he did the nasie salooot!"

utter nonsense. I'm tired of people lying about the event.

You narrowed it down to just sitting in your pocket, but you probably don't realize how much the camera on your phone has been exposed to every square inch of your house, no?

Besides, if it isn't your phone it's someone else's. And even beyond that, your SSN is in the possession of hundred, if not thousands of entities whether you directly agree with it or not; may as well be public info at this point is so easy to get hands on. Could have been that doctors office that is still running Windows XP because they are absolute technology heathens 🤷‍♂️

And to your point "by what magic", is actually kind of funny... because these devices are modern magic by all accounts. Let me list the amount of sensor packages on a modern cell phone:

[From gemini]

1. Motion and Position Sensors:

  • Accelerometer: Detects linear acceleration and tilt. Used for screen rotation, motion-based gaming, step counting, and shake gestures.
  • Gyroscope: Measures angular velocity (rate of rotation). Used for precise motion tracking, 360-degree photo/video capture, and AR/VR applications.
  • Magnetometer (Digital Compass): Detects magnetic fields. Used for compass orientation, navigation, and metal detection.
  • GPS (Global Positioning System) / GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System): Determines location using satellite signals. Used for navigation, location-based services, and geotagging.
  • Barometer: Measures atmospheric pressure. Used for altitude determination (useful for hiking apps), weather prediction, and assisting GPS for faster and more precise location lock.
  • Proximity Sensor: Detects the presence of nearby objects without physical contact, usually using infrared light. Used to turn off the screen during calls when the phone is near your ear, and preventing accidental touches.
2. Environmental Sensors:

  • Ambient Light Sensor: Measures the intensity of surrounding light. Used to automatically adjust screen brightness for optimal visibility and battery saving.
  • Temperature Sensor: Monitors the internal temperature of the device to prevent overheating. Not usually directly accessible to the user for environmental temperature readings.
  • Humidity Sensor: Some phones include sensors to measure relative humidity, but they are less common.
3. Biometric Sensors:

  • Fingerprint Sensor:Captures fingerprint data for secure unlocking and authentication. Various technologies are used:
    • Capacitive: Most common, uses tiny capacitors to detect fingerprint ridges.
    • Ultrasonic: Uses ultrasonic waves to map a 3D image of the fingerprint.
    • Optical: Takes a picture of the fingerprint.
  • Face Recognition Sensor:
    • 2D Face Recognition: Uses the front-facing camera to capture a 2D image of the face (less secure).
    • 3D Face Recognition (e.g., Face ID): Uses structured light, infrared cameras, and dot projectors to create a 3D map of the face (more secure).
4. Imaging and Input Devices:

  • Camera(s) (Front and Rear): Capture photos and videos. Modern phones often have multiple rear cameras with different lenses (wide-angle, telephoto, ultrawide, macro) and sensors for various photographic capabilities.
  • Microphone(s): Capture audio for calls, voice recordings, and video recording. Multiple microphones are often used for noise cancellation.
  • Touchscreen: The primary input device, using capacitive or resistive technology to detect touch input.
  • Stylus (on some models): A pen-like input device used for more precise input, drawing, and writing on the touchscreen.
5. Communication and Connectivity:

  • Cellular Modem: Enables connection to cellular networks (3G, 4G LTE, 5G) for voice calls, data, and SMS.
  • Wi-Fi Chip: Enables connection to Wi-Fi networks for internet access.
  • Bluetooth Chip: Enables short-range wireless communication with other devices (headphones, speakers, smartwatches, etc.).
  • NFC (Near Field Communication) Chip: Enables short-range communication for contactless payments (Apple Pay, Google Pay), data transfer, and tag reading.
  • Infrared Blaster (on some models): Allows the phone to be used as a remote control for TVs and other devices.
  • UWB (Ultra-Wideband) Chip (on some models): Enables precise location tracking and short-range communication with very low latency. (e.g. finding lost items with AirTags on iPhones)
6. Other Components:

  • Speaker(s): Output audio for calls, music, videos, and notifications.
  • Haptic Engine (Vibration Motor): Provides tactile feedback (vibrations) for notifications, interactions, and some gaming experiences.
  • Flash/Torch LED/Infrared: Provides illumination for photos and videos, and can be used as a flashlight.
And that's not even an exhaustive list.

Fun fact: modern cell phone microphones are sensitive enough to hear conversations *outside of* your hose (in certain circumstances)
