Overnight plug in software logic?

I plug my truck into the UWC once I get home.

My target is 55% and my commute consumed ~25% every day. With the UWC it gets charged back up to 55% pretty darn quick!

My question is what does the Tesla software do after it hits 55%? Is it supposed to maintain this 55%? I keep sentry mode turned on every night and it seems to burn about 2-3% per night.

On most days I can schedule a departure, but over the weekend I'd like the truck to maintain 55% so I can jump in it at anytime a roll... not always sure on my schedule on non-work days.

Sometimes I check the app and it's not at 55% when plugged in... is there a dead band that it allows it to come down to before topping off?

I don't have extremely precise data, but when the CT's had insomnia prior to the update that fixed that, I had it plugged in for days without driving it. It would lose a few % and then charge back up to the target level, and repeat this once in a while. It might not be exactly 55% at all times, maybe it'll get down to 52% or so before topping back up.

Very interesting, I wonder if their logic is noted somewhere...

When I went out there this AM the battery was significantly under 55%. Seems like a 1% dead band trickle charge would be ideal, but I guess that may not be ideal for the battery or charger.

If I jump in the truck it starts charging again (back up to the 55)

Doing that kind of charging (trickle) simply wastes electricity if it's constantly 'charging' and wouldn't be good for the components of the charging system in your vehicle either... Why not just bump it up to 60% and then you don't have to worry about it?

My experience with previous Teslas has been about 3% under limit and it'll kick off the charge again.

With my Teslas, I find it never tops back up after it charges to your set limit; if I don't drive it for days, it has certainly dropped more than one day. The only event that sometimes restarts the charging to your set limit is some software updates; sometimes when it comes out of the update, it starts charging again. I found this to be true on both 110 and 220 lines.

I believe it will charge up if you have your vehicle set to 'leave at' a certain time... I say this because I will leave mine plugged in overnight and sometimes it will 'draw down' a few percent over the hours at night due to Sentry Mode and such... But I have it set to be 'ready' for me at 8am with Temp set at 70... I have noticed it topping off within an hour or so of that timeframe...

Also, SOMETIMES when I get ready to leave, instead of being at 80% (where I set it), it will actually be at 82-83% at 'leaving' time... Not sure if it's just putting in a couple more percent to 'cover' it or what, but I haven't had any issues either...

My car is always charged up to 80% every morning like clockwork, temp is properly set and the battery has already been 'conditioned' for optimal driving/usage...

LOVE just plugging in at home and never having to drive all the way to the gas station, sit there while filling up and... Worse... PAYING THE BIG BILL EVERY TIME!! Ain't solar great??
