Placed deposit on a 18,900km Foundation 2024 CT - what to look for during 30min test drive?

Hi guys,

Like many, I've been stalking a cybertruck for several months now. Prices have been softening almost weekly where I live.

Found a used demo for under $79,000 USD.

I called and they said the car was in near perfect condition (they all say that) but I did pay the deposit to hold the car, I'm going to check it out tomorrow.

They said I could take the car for a test drive, I have about 30min with it. Can you let me know what you would look for as deal breakers?

I've never owned a tesla before... but from what I understand battery health is important and range? For battery health doesnt seem I'll be able to run that diagnostic as it takes several hours from what I saw online.

Any specific items you would look for? Should I pass on such a high mileage Foundation CT? Supercharging does not transfer for us, only the FSD will.

Okay so about 11,744 miles. That’s not bad. I’ve had mine 7 months and have 15K on it. So far my battery hasn’t degraded at all, so I wouldn’t worry about it.

Which tires are on the one you’re looking at? Some people on here ate up their A/Ts in about 10K miles, so make sure they’re in good condition.

Make sure the accessories are there or get them to lower the price if the previous owner kept them - that’s part of FS.

Other than that, just give a good look over, same as if you were buying one new. Check the glass, body panels, trim, etc.

It comes with the cyberwheels and the wheel covers. I'll look into what the FS models came with in Canada and make sure they include them.

What about the test drive, is there any rattling I should look for that was affecting FS models?

I'll take a good hard look at the alignment of the panels... not sure if this one had cantrails fixed yet.

Also not sure about the windshield wiper, or any of the other recalls - I have no history into the car! lol

Put the VIN into Tesla’s Recall check website, i’m sure it will have the Cantrail recall active on it.

Take the truck to highway speeds (70mph+) and see if it vibrates and has loud tire noise. The factory tires have foam inside, and a common issue is it separates and causes tons of vibration.

Spray water on the tonneau with it closed, see if it leaks into the bed.

The cool thing is 90% of what you might find after you purchase is likely repairable under Tesla warranty

It’s a mixed bag on the Service Center replacing the tires under warranty.

I’ve seen some replace the tires, some credit a certain amount of $ depending on tread life left, and some will just remove the foam.

Yeah it seems the SC will fix under warranty most of the panels and gaps from what I’ve see on the YouTube videos

any other red flags that if you saw you would instantly walk away?

I’m most nervous about the mileage, highest one I’ve seen used in my region but also going for the cheapest price, so can’t complain too much

Im in Canada and have an early delivery AWD FS (Nov 2024) with just under 20,000 kms now. Wouldn’t sweat the mileage at all. Sounds like a great buy at that price. Mine was just under 160k out the door! As mentioned any issues will still be under warranty. You can comp out a new FS with free supercharging but you’re probably way better off with this one!

run the battery test via the menu
find a Tesla friend bubby and have the vin run for a report
def do autocheck (Tesla uses on tradeins) and carfax for accident reports

good luck, most have no issues
btw, think they switched the glue manuf/type before the cant recall, therefore very few will be affected

Unless the first owner was a zombie they had the small things like rattles and wind noise fixed, along with the warranty things (except the contrails which most of us haven’t had fixed yet).

i didn’t see whether it is an AWD or CB. Both got PowerShare hardware and you are entitled to that. The CB got the upper light bar which you are entitled to. The other items should be in the truck.

a few owners have experienced some nasty things but most of us have had no real issues. Do cars in Canada have CarFacts?

12,000 miles seems low to me. I just hit a year and have about 15,000 miles.
