And the expertise to coordinate everything, do the wiring and installation, then pass inspection in a 30 year old house.
As a new construction electrician making $19/hr, I would feel really taken advantage of if an electrician charged me $5,000 for less than one day's work. That is $1,200,000/year for one man.

I had a Gateway 3V and Universal Wall Charger installed yesterday, 4/10/2024. Tesla selected Northwest Electric & Solar as the installer, and referred them to me. The Gateway seperates my house from the grid so that the truck can provide power when the grid is down, and the gateway also provides the neutral. The Universal Wall Charger is a two-way device, that can either charge the truck or enable the truck to power the house.
Your install looks good and is probably best case as far as conduit and location.

I like to get/match the small stuff like a base to mount it on like the existing light and meter but then you'd need to cut siding and so on. Fiber cement siding?

It's too bad that the existing conduit into the meter box was on the right side as I'd rather have the gateway on the right side of the meter and away from the doo and light.

Did they give any options for location of install? Did you think about mounting the gateway inside?

Tesla is doing my install and they say they charge a minimum $3500 so that is the quote they gave me but there was no description of the work or location of equipment.

yes, fiber, cement siding installed about three years ago.

Agree, to the right would’ve been better, would also give room for expansion with powerwall later. The pictured location was the closest to the panel for the installer.

It seems like I had a totally different conversation with the estimator versus the installer. With the estimator, we talked about putting it on the wall inside, and running through the walls and ceiling rather than using conduit. Installer said he was unprepared to do any of that.

None of those locations were specified in the agreement, so I got what the installer was willing to do on that day of installation.

It meets my needs, but things could have been better.

interesting they went with this approach vs. using/awaiting the Backup switch. maybe your meter or jurisdiction doesn't support the backup switch.
Somewhere I saw a list of jurisdictions that had approved back up switch, and mine was not on this list. In any case, I believe we still need the gateway to provide the neutral and tell the system to provide power from the truck.

I just got mine installed yesterday. Same installer and like your install, he did a really nice job. The new universal chargers do not have the PowerShare logo on the glass anymore. I had bought a universal 6 months ago in preparation for the CT and it had the PowerShare logo on the front plate. The one that came as part of the FS I had them replace a Chargepoint unit I got a few years ago. I just got my VIN so hopefully cross paths with you some day.

The Universal wall charger that was installed does not have the PowerShare logo on the bottom, as seen on Tesla powershare website. Is that true for others?

A page about PowerShare on Tesla’s website links to the standard Wall Connector, they must have added the bi-directional capability awhile back, maybe only the latest gen. I was under the impression it was a new WC required for the bi-directional charging, but apparently not.

Got the truck home and it’s charging at 48 A. Could not get wife approval to test out the vehicle to home.

Tested Powershare whole home back up today, but it did not enable.

On the gateway 3v, flipped off the service disconnect and waited 8’.
After 8’, woke up the truck and tried to turn on the power share button on the app, nothing. Turned on the rear outlet and a pump ramped up, but no other effect. Turned the service back on after 10’.

I saw a tweet from someone connected to Tesla that said it works now if you have the Gateway 3V and no power walls. Truck software is v12.14.3.

It seems my test was premature.

According to the Tesla App Updates decompile, I should see this in my app on my phone:

what I see on my phone (app v4.32.5) is this:

One reason I thought Powershare was ready, was in a reply to Tesla tweet on the forthcoming spring update, @Cybertruck (Viv?) wrote:

However, release notes for 2024.14.3 do not have anything about PowerShare.

A concern: my gateway 3v is not reporting what version is installed

my current suspicion is there is a firmware update I need, or because of changes to the Energy team, the spring update didn’t get something it needed. If you have any more information, please add to this thread.

Sounds like we’re still waiting on an update to enable PowerShare.

I just had the new universal charger and V3 gateway installed today. The installers had to call Tesla to get them to push a hard update to my wall connector to get the newest version. That version that came out 8 days ago is the same version you reported. 24.12.51. So it would seem it’s not an update to your equipment that matters, but just waiting on Tesla to enable.
