I live in FL and we lost power due to hurricane Milton. I had the truck hooked up to PowerShare to run the lights, fridges, etc in the house. Only drawing 0.5kw so looked good to run the house for a few days.

After several hours the power cut out unexpectedly. I went to check the truck and it was totally dead. I’ve seen this before on out MY so figured it was a low voltage issue. Jumped the Cybertruck with my neighbors Jeep which allowed some of the systems to boot up / reset. It immediately threw a bunch of error codes i.e. High Voltage System Error, Low Voltage System, etc. If I disconnect the jump from the Jeep the everything immediately goes dead again. SOC is at 83% so it’s not a high voltage issues.

Put in a service request and Tesla is sending a tow truck… So we’re back to sitting in the dark.

I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar? I imagine there are a lot of owners using PowerShare right now. Is it possible that could kill the low voltage system?

If the HV system faults, the low voltage system battey may not get recharged. That's probably why it was dead and died when disconnected from the Jeep.

I don't recall any threads about it.

But some people have had the voltage converter or harness crap out before.

Get the jeep to jump you again, then hook up a 12v battery charger (50 amp if you got it) in parallel with the jeep, plug the battery charger into an outlet on the truck. Unhook the jeep. Might stay on to power your house, if not, no harm it’s already fried.

Yes, I have the Tesla gateway
Just checking; I was going to suggest double and triple checking to make sure you we're backfeeding the line or someone wasn't backfeeding you. Most people are oblivious to how electricity works lol

it sounds like you have a 48v battery issue that happened to manifest at one of the worst times; keep us posted and good luck!

Yeah that appears to be the case. Tesla Service has it now so we’ll see what they say

I got the truck back over the weekend. Took about 2 weeks for them to resolve the issue. Below is the explanation from the service invoice, unfortunately they didn't give me any indication on what might have cause the damage in the first place.

Concern: Car won't power on/enter drive

Repair Notes: Vehicle presents to service for inability to power on. Connected vehicle to
maintainer and multiple alerts present for body control module issues. Inspected wiring and found
damage to front and left body control modules and cabin floor wiring harness requiring
replacement. Removed and replaced damaged modules and wiring harness. Performed software
install and module calibration. Verified that vehicle is able to power on and enter drive following
repairs. No further alerts present.

Correction: Diagnosis: Low Voltage Circuit Integrity Check

Correction: Body Controllers - Right Controller - Remove and Replace
Parts Replaced or Added
Part Quantity
MID VOLTAGE RIGHT
HAND
CONTROLLER(1771458-
12-E)
1.00

Correction: Body Controllers - Left Controller - Remove and Replace
Parts Replaced or Added
Part Quantity
MID VOLTAGE LEFT
HAND
CONTROLLER(1814265-
12-E)
1.00

Correction: Frunk and Cabin Harnesses - Harness - Cabin Floor - Remove and Replace

The harnesses have failed in other trucks. If a wire is kinked, a plug is misplugged, a pin is miscrimped or soldered, or a capcitor craps out, and it'll fail early.

Once the load is unbalanced, it'll burn out other things parallel to it quickly.

Thanks for the follow-up. I'd chalk it up to normal early production deviation.

Thanks, I hope you're right. I'm pretty hard on my truck so I was a bit concerned it was the result of off-road use. It does not appear to be the result of PowerShare at least.

These types of a QC issues concern me as a potential buyer. This isn't normal folks - not at this scale. Good on Tesla for fixing, but this truck should have never left the factory.

I don't think that's a fair assessment. I'm personally very pleased with the quality of my truck and until now have had no issues. You have to keep in mind that this is the first mass-produced vehicle ever made with a 48v electrical system. That means all new design, parts, suppliers, etc. It's inevitable that there will be some kinks to work out with the first production run. As an early-adopter, I knew this and was comfortable with that risk.

Other Automakers have major recalls and warranty issues on new vehicles all the time as well. Tesla just gets more attention because a significant portion of our society feels it's their duty to hate on EVs at any opportunity.

I have no doubt that Tesla is making incremental improvements to the design and execution of the Cybertruck. You can see how this will play out if you look at the history of the Model 3 / Y. They had some early quirks but are now some of the most reliable and best-selling cars on the road.

This is completely normal for a brand new product and architecture.
