I have had a pulsing from the front (assumed drive unit) since I picked up the truck. It is most noticeable at 30 mph - mostly because from the cabin it is louder than road and wind noise. Also can be heard at 30-60 - very fast pulsing & intermittent. I reported it at a 250 mile service appointment, and again at a 1,300 mile service appointment. On both occassions Tesla SC said they didn't know and it might be normal - I should monitor and report if it gets worse.

I have now recorded the sound with Steelman Pro ChassisEars - professional mechanics microphones that are hooked up around the car for the diagnosis of NVH (noise vibration harshness). There are 4 recordings made on 0-30 mph runs in a straightline on my street. The microphones where placed (colors are from each microphone) on both sides of the front - where clip-on points were easily available. Files are MP4 videos to get them uploaded to Tesla and also on this site - originally they were .m4a format.

1) Red - LHS Drive Unit
2) White - LHS Front Frame at Motor Mount
3) Green - RHS Front Upper Wishbone
4) Yellow - RHS Front Frame at Motor Mount

Sound is most noticeable from Red on LHS Drive Unit (DU side of the motor mount), and Yellow on RHS Front Frame beside the Motor Mount. You can hear it in the other two recordings but it is much quieter. From the cabin it sounds like it mostly comes from the front right-hand side.

This definitely isn’t normal, how Tesla SC could think the other way?

That's crazy. My beast does not have that sound. Definitely should be replaced. Hopefully if you take it again, they'll handle it like it sounds like they're handling @Guylouis

Dual Motor or CB?
I have a similar sound in my DM, just thought it was related to the more robust axle lockers or drive unit gearing.

I am having the EXACT same issue with my Dual Motor truck. I have been in contact with my local center that said engineering needs to approve the front motor swap and it's been 3 weeks still with nothing back yet. It's so frustrating and irritating to drive and hear this noise nonstop. It mainly happens around 50-70 MPH for me, but it's the exact same noise and I can't stand it.

Going to show them this thread so they can see and hear it from someone else!

My VIN is <1100 DM. Scheduled for service in early Oct. Posted audio(video) data with service request - fully expecting to get a call/msg a few days before.

same noise on my AWD, do search for chirping noise. It's normal sound from inverter according to SC. I have. no vibrations though that I can detect.

That's clearly the sound of Chewie cutting in the sub-light engines.... go back to hyperspace and you'll be fine... :)

Anyone receive any updates on this? My local service center told me engineering denied swapping my motor for a new one and is saying this is normal noise, which is absolutely NOT normal. I literally cannot deal with the noise anymore and am considering retaining a lawyer to handle this. Not going to live with it after spending $110k on a truck that they are refusing to fix. Why are some allowed to have a new motor and not others?

If anyone did receive a new motor replacement for this noise issue, but post or DM me your local center so I can see if mine can call and understand how they obtained the approval.
