“Any” range extender. Interesting verbiage. Definitely different than “the” range extender. Signaling hesitation in whether a range extender will be produced?
It might also suggest multiple versions (capacity, size, weight). Maybe they are still working things out. For now I don’t need it, and they said later in 2024 anyway, but I would like it before 2025. I am not holding my breath though.

Can't imagine anyone wanting this, takes up such a huge portion of the bed. Not a good solution.
Assuming that Tesla used all the available space for the battery pack (correct/not correct), how would ‘you’ safely get 140 miles more range? Your statement suggests that you know.

$16K for an additional 100 miles-ish is steep ask.

Wait....I got it...

The Cyber Trailer Range Extender!. Size of a tractor trailer giving you 10,000 miles of juice.

Suck it Rivian!!!

340 -> 470 is 130 miles. You may still consider it too much for your needs, so the decision for you is a simple one. There are many for whom an additional 130 miles is more important than the space in the bed, and for them the cost might be justifiable. Time will tell.

And for us RVers, that's 235 miles between campsites where we can charge overnight eliminating Supercharger stops, with qualified ifs.

If it’s the only solution I’ll take it. With the additional drag of an aftermarket camper shell, I need all the rage I can get.

I routinely drive 400mi trips every couple weeks. When I had a Turbo Diesel I could make that trip in 4.5 hrs with still a 1/3 of the tank left. In the truck I need 5.5 hrs (factoring slowing down to exit, finding the charging stall and going back on the highway). I don’t have a pea sized bladder so even with the supercharging stops I don’t need to use the restroom either.

But people forget that there are other benefits as well.

For those who have installed the PowerShare hardware, how much more power/time does this add in the event of a power outage.

For those who have modded their trucks (camper shells, lift kits, more aggressive AT tires with less on road efficiency, aux winches, lights, air conditioners, fridge freezers)

Also how does this affect charging the main pack? Does this extend the life of the main pack since in my case, I would charge it less often to 100% on long trips?

When I charge to 100% I can probably make 270-280mi due to my average speed of 80mi/hr and elevation changes. For those who say to slow it down, that can be difficult unless you want to be run off the road during road rage or stuck behind a semi truck under 65mi/hr on a 2 lane highway.

Lastly unexpected freak accidents or detours on trips. I was caught up in the mess that closed Interstate 15 in California from Los Angeles to Vegas. A normal 5.5 hr trip turned into a 10+ hr ordeal. A bunch of Teslas trying to charge, hundreds of ICE vehicles pulled over, gas stations running out of gas and food with 2+ hr wait for the restrooms. Let’s not forget being 100+ degrees outside. The extra piece of mind that pack provides in my use case is well worth the money.

Of course the main draw back is the price and longer charging times, however majority of my charging is at home prior to the trips.

Cybertruck one day?

This range extender thing seems like a downgrade all around, and it costs $15k. The only reasonable use case is if you take this truck camping. So you use it a handful of times per year - But even, it is so stupid.

Stupid? You sound like a very narrow-minded person that cannot see past the end of their nose.

Don't doubt utility, just heart burn at ~$123/mi for added capability. Would be great if they are able to bring that price point down substantially.

The market will vote obviously once they offer it at $X price.

I don’t like how the range extender is taking up so much bed space, suppose I need to see one in person. I’d be a lot happier if it was more like a few sheets of plywood on the bottom vs a giant tool box near the cab.
There needs to be different configurations in the bed in my opinion. Upfront left side right side, etc.

But this will be a huge option going forward make no mistake. People want the range.

The penthouse is accessible rear/ below the tonneau. However, there aren't currently additional connections available for the extender.
Charge port HV connection:

There's a connection point beneath the compressor if I remember the diagram right.

We obviously know the extender goes in the bed. We know it goes against the wall. I'm not sure what point people are trying to make here?

I actually thought the verbiage of “by Tesla” to be more interesting. once it is released will Tesla allow 3rd party options?

Why, because your opinion differs from mine?
They are calling you narrow minded because you are calling it stupid for not being able to see the opinions and use cases of others, and you respond with that? Pot, meet kettle.
