The only problem I see is if when the tonneau is open the rear view video feed disappears. So then you won't have a way to see directly behind you. I only discovered this because I forgot to close the tonneau and drove off wondering where my camera feed went.
Did not know that. Mine is always closed. I wonder if there is a setting for that. Did you get hitting the camera button on the wheel?

This forum is so full of old farts that have led a restrictive life and have shown no capacity to change.

If the rear-view mirror is blocked, don't use it. I commonly glance at it, but when it's black, my brain just moves on to the side mirrors. It would be the same even if the mirror wasn't there.

Getting used to NOT using the rear-view mirror is MUCH MORE dangerous in my book. I don't drive one and only vehicle.

I'm going to scan every possible thing that I can when I need to. I'll flip on the cameras if I feel the need to. If you've adjusted your side mirrors correctly, you can see everything out of them, except for a few feet behind the truck, and that's only important when backing up and the camera come on at that point.

Rear-view mirrors have been issues for longer than probably anyone else on this forum have existed. The Cybertruck is FAR from the first.

I had a Ford E-350 Camper. No way the mirror could see out the back, but it did see in the trailer.

I am going to point mine at my kids in the back
Wow, that's a good idea. It's only my dog in back but finding an alternative use may help me stop automatically looking there before the screen.

The rear view mirror is stupid and the screen mirror is also terrible. The screen makes everything so small and not really useable. They should have had the rear view mirror as its own screen.
It would be nice to have magnification settings for the rearview display.

I am always having to A. Turn around or B. Move the mirror to check on the kids. Now will just have a built in kids mirror.
This will hopefully train me to always look at the screen.
Unlike others, I don't like the idea of a digital rearview mirror for one reason. I can't see close up so I am guessing it would be a big blur without glasses.

I have to ask, Why?

You could always get one of the stick ons.
Because I think being able to choose to see things a little larger and closer would be worth a bit narrower field of view, which is what most of us are used to from standard rearview mirrors. I can't see any problem with making it a choice to fit the circumstances.

No I didn't hit any buttons on the squircle. I had just finished loading from a nursery and forgot to close the tonneau cover. A minute later I'm looking for my camera feed. Now that I'm trained to look at it. Took me a week to stop looking at the mirror. As soon as I closed the tonneau while at a stop light, my feed returned.

I finally removed the rear view mirror before a 4 hour road trip and it's the best thing I've done since getting the truck! It's worthless for sure but I didn't realize how just having it there was distracting me and keeping me from adjusting to the camera rear view on the screen my brain and eyes just couldn't stop looking there and then trying to find a usable image. Both when I needed to check behind me and just as part of normal driving scanning. Each time it only took a second and I'd catch myself and look in the right spot but those are key and valuable seconds when you need to see or know what's there. Once the mirror was gone it made such a huge difference and it was so much easier to adjust to looking at the screen and felt much more natural and safe. My conclusion is that having the mirror is WAY more dangerous than just removing it.

And it only took all of 60 seconds to remove.
Did you cover it the opening send some photos please

For $100,000 do you think Tessa would’ve put a digital camera in the rearview mirror and not just in the center console like all their other vehicles. Save the center for 360 view.

I was talking to some folks that previously had a Bolt last night. They indicated that they hated the switchable electronic mirror and that this picture is a great example.

When you switch from looking forward to reverse, your focus is off. Just as this picture where the horizon is out of focus.

I think you just need to force the rearview on at all times under Display -> Rear View Camera.
