I designed these fixtures to make it much easier to install and uninstall my custom roof rack. The studs provided by Tesla are awkward to utilize so I created these adapters to fit under the flip covers and present a 14-2 threaded hole that is easy to attach to. Just drill holes in your rack above and secure with a bolt. I printed eight of these in 316 SS for $30 each. Yeah - not cheap but worth it to me. Model is free to download if anyone else is making their own rack.

Note: Threads will have to be chased with a 14-2 tap - printed part is not clean enough to use as-is. Also, since I made it fit under the covers, washers or other spacer *must* be used to span the gap between the fixture and the rack to avoid distorting the CT frame when torquing the bolts down.

Really nice, It looks like the studs are centered in you mounts,, every single one of mine was offset to the outside edge. I used 1-1/2 box beam steal and made some mounts, cost about 250 in total. 1-1/14 stainless steal tube for the racks.

This is AWESOME! If you're interested in producing these (3D Printed or CNC'd) send me an email! I have an engineering prototyping company. Would love to build them for you if you're planning on selling them. [email protected]

These look awesome! I was looking at doing something similar when my rack comes in. I downloaded the file you linked to and the .stl type is great for 3D printing. Is there any chance that you might also have it in a .step or .igs file type? I’m looking at the possibility of CNC machining some out of stainless and could really use a file type with geometry and tessellation data for this type of process.

Sure. I'll send you a step file. Surprised the STL isn't working for you, though. I have produced Fanuc CNC gcode from a STL using SolidWorks/SolidCam.

Thanks. I really have no interest in going into sales. However I don't mind if other people take my models to sell finished products. Has happened more than once already (usually without asking). My friends think I should be pissed but I was never going to sell them so I really don't mind. I figure they are providing a service for folks without the means or inclination to make it themselves. Do you have pics of your roof rack that you don’t mind sharing? Great design on these.

Not yet. Still a WIP. I need it to carry 20' stock so it will extend all the way forward and have additional supports from the front recovery hooks (why I don't want to have it on year round).

After I watched the Urander video on how to install thier rack that I had ordered, I saw that their kit actually had something very similar already, so I had no need to. It’s black powder coated steel, uses two 10mm nuts to hold it down to the trucks factory studs, and it allows a single 17mm bolt to then screw into it for the rack attachment. It’s effectively the same thing. Worked perfect. The rack can be taken off just by removing the eight 17mm bolts.
