Safest/best way to carry propane in a Cybertruck.

I don’t have much experience traveling with anything other than the tiny little green bottles but fire bans have made me want to carry a larger amount. Was thinking of bringing a little 5lbs tank I got from a friend for Christmas or maybe even the 20lbs tank I use for powering our back yard pizza oven on our trips.
what’s the safest way to do that? In the vault? Is it safe to close the tonneau? It’s gets pretty damn hot in there during the day in Arizona. Any of you have clever packing or mounting solutions you’d like to share? Any tips?

Suppliers recommend under 120F and out of direct sun. So partly closed vault with the tank at the front might be ok. It's also better if you don't have the bed dust sealed so the heavier than air propane can escape if the tank vents.

That makes sense. By front do you mean the tailgate side or the window side? There are some weird semantics to do with truck beds and those descriptors.

The only truly safe place is in the bed with the tonneau open, strapped into a carrier so it's upright and can't roll around, or in a hitch carrier. The primary reason is because of potential leaks, you don't want it leaking into an enclosed space, especially the cabin.

And as @mongo noted, you have to keep it under 120°F because like everything else, propane expands with temperature.

I have my Boring Company not-a-flamethrower mounted in my frunk, but with an empty tank for show. I thought about keeping a spare small tank in the truck, maybe strapped to a molle panel, but decided against it.

So does it help if the tank isn’t full? Let’s say at 80% or so (totally thumb sucking that number) to accommodate for heat expansion?

Yeah, but at worst it's a propane fire/explosion outside of a decently protective steel tailgate

Probably wouldn't be good for anyone that hit you, though.

Oh, cool, that's probably your safest bet.

I was think glass end for shade and securement.
I'm may be doing this to adjust trailer tongue weight.

Awkward, I found the smugglers bay a good size so I stuffed it in there with foam that I had and called it a day. Kinda perfect fit.
Anyone have any idea what temps result in the truck bed with sun beating on the tonneau, I'm curious now.

Not sure on just the bed...
The interior of my truck was at 138F last week when the ambient was 98. That's with an enclosed Urander cap over the rear glass, vault cover open, tailgate and cap rear glass closed.

When I travel with one, I crack the tonneau and keep it secured using the cargo divider by the tailgate but away from the outlets.

If you're not measuring, you're guessin'.

This is what we use when we hunt. I’ve usually got 3 or 4 tanks in the bed and you can use a handful of different l-track mounts to attach it. They have them for different size propane tanks as well.
