Wait, this is AFTER he hit a fire hydrant? He was obviously going way too fast. This looks like a suburb so max speed limit is 45.

Who gives a vehicle like this to an 18 year old? Even a responsible one.

Anyway, hope he recovers.

Before 5 am? Either he has been out all night - or he is a real go getter and heading to workout early before class.

Reminds me when I flew into Clark Airbase in the Philippines. Old crusty guys were having beers at 10 am in an outside bar. Wasn't sure if it was the first beer of the day or the last : )

Well, i think that the tree was right next to the hydrant. In another video that i saw, he hit the tree at HIGH speed!

Fire erupted right away at front of vehicle in the home security video! That is why i asked above…where is the fire coming from???

Yeah. That fire immediately upon impact near the frunk is the question. Is that the high voltage cables disconnecting from the front drive unit and causing a massive thermal dump/ arching through those cables? I suspect this is what caused the fire and the subsequent fire. The Battery Management System (especially crash management) is robust in Tesla’s but…those new 4680’s have the least real-world crash testing.

There was fire with the collision right away…why?? And fire was at the front of the car, not battery area.

The same thing happened when the drunk kids slammed into a wall, with fire emanating from the frunk area. Might be the MV battery? There are flammable liquids also, like brake fluid.

The HV pack was disconnected before the truck even hit the tree. Both pyro fuses will sever the HV paths inside the pack when the airbags deploy.

If this happened on FSD, I'll eat that truck.

Obviously the HV pack was compromised, since it later experienced thermal runaway at the tow yard, but that was some hours later.

The driver escaped through the window. IDK if he tried the manual release? Doors can become jammed in collisions, I remember having to kick my door repeatedly to escape when I totaled my first car.

I “think” that the bystanders pulled him out thru the windows. Clearly, in the video i posted on page 3, driver‘s mental status was gone…no way he would have crawled out of the window by himself. Bystanders called for him to wake up in the video.

Let's be real here. With the information we have currently, there is absolutely no way to know whether he climbed out on his own and collapsed or was pulled out by a bystander.

Try to think logically. The state of the driver when the video started is not enough to conclude he couldn't have climbed out 3 minutes (or even one minute) earlier.

There is also no way (for us) to know whether he had his seatbelt on or not. Modern airbags can work wonders in accidents like this.

What we can conclude is he was driving at excessive speed. That much is clear.

Go to timestamp 18 seconds. Clearly the bystanders are breaking the window and pulling someone out.

Then at around timestamp 29 seconds…the driver in underwear and socks lying on ground with water and disoriented. And the guy filming fist pumping the guy in white tank top because that guy probably pulled the driver out.

That's what i was wondering. Not sure if the battery was so far damaged it caused fire, or a thermal runaway situation. The earlier articles made it seem like the fire didn't start until the truck was towed away.
