Spit! What should I do? File a report or not?

Sorry that happened to you and your truck. My opinion is, people like this are aggressive enough to not only do it once, but multiples times will escalate their aggressiveness to a potential physical conflict or other violence to you, your sister or some other victim in the future. I would report these incidents if not only to just document that fool and his aggressive acts. You don't know, this jerk could already be on LE's radar screen. Report.

Right. It's surprising that a lawyer would make the mistake of thinking that reporting a crime (vandalism/harassment) risks litigation and associated fees, expenses and wasting of significant time. This is not a civil matter, it's criminal. Because there is plenty of irrefutable evidence, three videos of the same person spitting on the vehicle on three sperate occasions, it's not credible that reporting it would involve significant fees or litigation expense. The repeat nature proves a pattern of harassment. It's not like the deranged liberal is going to try to sue for simply reporting the crimes the videos captured. Cleaning the spit in future incidents (which are likely given the repeat nature of this harassment) would take more time and expense than filing a police report which is free and takes 10 minutes.

Documenting the crime, on the public record, regardless of whether the prosecutor decides to cite the perpetrator, is a smart thing to do in case anything escalates. It will show that you are a reasonable, no-nonsense, law-abiding citizen who doesn't lean towards vigilante justice but recognizes we are a nation of laws and leans on the law, rather than personally confronting the harasser (which could become dangerous or escalate the situation), to resolve disputes.

Oh my, that is very frustrating. Certainly makes my blood boil when I see stuff like this . Here's my two cents:

File a police report if you'd like, but it doesn't matter too terribly much whether you do or you don't. Pro's: Might make you feel better; it'll document the situation in case something in the future happens (or make sure you save the videos). Negatives: The police are too busy and are very unlikely to do anything about this.

And from there, probably the best thing I can recommend is wash the car and unfortunately let it go. Shrug it off your shoulders and never let this degenerate waste another thought. As much as I really want to say take a bat and beat the sh*t out of the fat ugly little hog, that's not the wisest thing...

Over the past ten years, I have seen many people escalate over what was such a silly meaningless thing to start. Someone gives them the finger, they go over and do something that gets them criminal charges, then they get fired from their job. Someone road rages them, they start tailing them and then rear end them in an accident - then they get sued over something so silly and lose a bunch of money to gross little parasites like this woman. And the worst case scenario, I have seen a situation where someone does something offensive, the victim confronts them, and then the victim gets fatally shot and their life is over because of something that didn't matter.

Ask yourself if the spit truly matters? If it does and you feel you'll have enough self-control (and you think she'll have enough self-control), perhaps going over and speaking to the woman might help or perhaps leaving a note.

But if it really doesn't matter - just let it go and avoid the extra liability and increased risk addressing this might bring.

And with that, although this made my blood boil, I am going to shrug this away myself and dismiss this foolish woman from my own mind.

I would definitely confront the woman. Tell her or show her the evidence and say “I’m giving you the opportunity to apologize for what you have done, if you refuse I will file a police report a with evidence.” Most likely you will get an insincere apology but even so you will feel better that you confronted her, made it known you have evidence to prove she did it. When the perp comes out to do the deed step out of the vehicle and show them how displeased you are.
They only do it because they think they can get away with no consequences, introducing consequences corrects the behavior, immediately.

Print a picture of her spitting on your car. Pour some latex paint or something not too terrible to remove on her hood. Stick the picture on it. There must always be consequences. If left unchecked it will continue to get worse.

I parked my Cybertruck on my sister’s block in Philadelphia this weekend. To be honest, I’ve been afraid to do that for the past two years, so we almost always bring our Model Y instead.

Unfortunately, one of my sister’s neighbors repeatedly spit on my truck throughout the night. Sentry Mode captured the entire incident, including multiple instances of them returning to the truck, walking back into their house afterward, and later getting into a vehicle where the license plate is clearly identifiable to me today.

At this point I’m trying to decide what to do. I’m considering filing a police report, but I’m also mindful that this is my sister’s neighbor and she has to continue living there long after I leave.

For those of you who have experienced intentional vandalism or harassment that was clearly captured on Sentry Mode:

* Did you file a police report?
* What was the outcome?
* Did law enforcement take it seriously?
* Did you confront the person or leave it to the police?
* If you had to do it again, would you handle it differently?

I’m not looking to start a political debate or encourage retaliation. I’m genuinely looking for advice from people who have been through something similar and can share what actually happened in their cases.

We addressed it, she apologized. I had to be parked another night so I didn’t want her to do something worse the next night like scratch or puncture tires. Also my sister sent out a message to her street and they all were mad and upset. They made muffins and offered beers!

Now in the time it took to resolve the issue I have an offer from rivian. It really sucks to have a vehicle I just can’t feel safe to park in standard areas or afraid of going to remote areas and certain cities. Rivians offer is nice but I’m worried about reliability, with no nearby service centers, and love my FSD.

Here's an idea for next time: try knocking on the door and talking to them like a human being. Perhaps you can resolve the situation without resorting to pettiness nor involving law enforcement. Filing a report is still an available option if negotiation is unsuccessful.

They'd be much less lawlessness if we would take more time to talk to each other.

I'm sorry but LOL. You think someone that spits on cars is "reasonable"? They 100% have mental illness, and with our new "justice system" in which crime is de-criminalized; we're going to enter a new era of vigilante justice. Especially any sane person left in these cities turning communist. This is only going to get worse.
