Lol why not just "charge" the theives with a electrical shock when they try to take the cable with? Could just be a firmware upgrade? 🤪

I have always wondered why ATMs don't have a cell phone, GPS and a battery inside them. When thieves used a pickup or backhoe or something to pry an ATM loose the police would get a call. "I am the ATM located at 84th and Park Drive. I have been stolen and am being taken north on 84th and am just crossing L street. I am forwarding pictures of the thieves and their vehicle." The same technology would work for charging cables. The cables could also include a long slender dye pack. Cut it and turn purple.

EV charging cables and catalytic converters......snip, snip and saw, saw.

Anti-Theft Chargers Available, says Arias
Arias says the problem might have been prevented had the if the city had installed a different type of EV charger.

“They weren’t the anti-theft type, which are available,” Arias told GV Wire.

Article doesn't give any details about these "anti-theft chargers". Wonder what makes them anti-theft?

Simple Fix

Any metal recycle company can be informed.

Do Not Buy Cut Up EV Charging Cables.

and
If you go down to the local scrap metal company, you will see your charging cable.
and
The cut will match your cut.
Then the metal recycle company can contact the local police.
Jail
Anything over $1,000 is a felony - $10,000 fine - 5 years prison (where I live)

Simple Fix
in California the cable is probably the "get out of jail card".......nobody goes to jail for theft anymore...DA's wont prosecute

Yes
Thief could do a lot of work and strip and chop up the cable to get at and sell the copper.
but
That defeats the whole robbery thing.
Robbers do not want to work for money. That is the whole point of stealing to make money without working for money.
Im positive they would rather spend a few HOURS cutting wire and stripping it than work a couple DAYS at starbucks or something boring like that. still ez money in their eyes

It wouldn't be such a big deal if EV charging stations were as ubiquitous as gasoline/diesel fuel stations. And that's years away yet.

There are a bunch of anti-cutting materials, they are expensive. Similar to shark-proofing underwater cables, probably.
Sure. But I was referring to EV chargers that are supposedly already available and was wondering what anti-theft they are using.
