Tailgate Randomly Opened

I had just home from a short trip, was parked and probably locked by this time. Messing around in the garage and noticed the tailgate down. Went to close and it wouldn't. The locks were reversed so it would not go in. Was able to hit the unlock to trigger it and quickly closed, but then did it again. Restarted the CT and it seems fine. Very odd.

That sounds like the switch is malfunctioning.

Make sure the truck is locked so the switch cannot trigger the gate.

...And report it on your Tesla App. Warranty repairs are based on when you report, not when they're fixed.

This is 3rd complaint I have read regarding the tailgate.

One of my bigger fears is touching the wrong thing on the phone app and opening the tailgate while the truck is in the garage. I'd be ok with a few "are you sure" popups for opening the tailgate or frunk.

I’ve had this issue. Once it closed after a few tries, it stayed closed. The truck kept alerting me that it was open even though it was stuck closed. The emergency release wouldn’t work either. It went into service for two weeks and seems to be working well now for 5 days.

There's been over half a dozen, as well as reports that Tesla is working on a replacement switch.
