I have the OEM one and it works as advertised. It doesn’t interfere with the tailgate or the tonneau closing easily, and the Jumpseats are pretty cool.

I have 2 gripes about it, though. First, it covers part of the rear lightbar. At night, this makes your taillights about as good as indistinguishable from your brake lights. Second, the inside of the shield (the part touching the SS) has some sort of felt material. This is gentle on the steel, but I can’t imagine it’s waterproof. Tesla doesn’t make mention of if it’s waterproof, but I can only imagine mold would start to form on the inside if you left it out in the rain or took it through a carwash then didn’t remove it and let it dry.

For those reasons, I throw it on when I need to but it stays at home 99% of the time.

I bought one 6 months ago and I love it. I just leave it on and don't worry about it. It looks great and I hang a bike over the tailgate to transport it to trails.
How do you strap the bikes down?

I found a deal on a new gen 2 RaceFace pad. It's smaller, sized for an import pickup, but fits ok. Camera still had visibility.

The full size truck size would have been a little better, but was a little more than three times the price of the one I found. And the dimensions suggested it might be a little too wide on the top.

Bikes wedge onto it nicely and no further strapping is needed. But it has straps at the top that could be used. Or I could use a strap hooked to the bed anchor points if I was worried.

It's a bit of a grunt getting an ebike over the gate and rear sail though, I have to admit... especially when you have a trashed shoulder like I do (ironically, a MB crash ?).

I don’t have one of these so not sure how to answer the strap down question but wanted to add a link to this interesting product I found while reading about the Tesla product.

Pretty cool I think
If I were in the market for a tailgate shield for bikes, the RinseKit tailgate shower is definitely one I'd buy / consider.

I have their RinseKit Pro (FYI, it's a lot cheaper if purchased from Costco: $160, sometimes on sale for cheaper) to hose off our two English Labs and it's great.

I have two of those rinsekit pros from Costco. They are amazing. Got one in each car. Price has dropped btw. They are selling them for $120 at my local Costco. No brainer at that price and very very fun with kids.

$120 is a phenomenal deal! It's not in stock at the 2 local warehouses I frequent. If it's $120 in the warehouse, I'll have to stop by another one that does have it in stock and ask for a refund of the $40 (I just bought mine about a month ago from their website).

So I just bought this thing for my
Mountain bike, literally used it one time and have had it less than a week, and the thread started coming off for no apparent reason, it’s brand new. Unfortunate Tesla doesn’t exchange items, I’ll have to go through their return process, but what if it was just pass their 30 days? There’s no warrenty on these things? I love the way it looks so I’m disappointed in this thread coming apart so effortlessly, I thought I was biuing the $300 OEM product because it’s going to be of quality. Anyone else experience this?

All Tesla accessories are total crap. Costly, but still crap.

Tesla does acceleration well. And maybe batteries. And they can do kinda self driving. But that’s it. And imho that’s enough to compete with the American car industry.

Respectfully, they ARE the American car industry. I don’t know why everyone seems to struggle with that.

It does suck that the quality of that thing is inferior. Was seriously considering one

Good point. I guess I view Tesla as the new American car industry. It’s just so outside the standard American car norm.
