I agree; however, I think the cover is there to protect the tire, so if it's scratched, it will suck, but it's better than the tire scratching, Is my assumption. plus it looks cool :)
Don’t you mean the wheel? Do we really mind/care if the tire is scratched?

I saw it at the Petersen, and I agree! It sticks out WAY beyond the tire. But I'd like to add that is absolutely ridiculous for off-road use! Those hubcaps would be destroyed in a matter of minutes, with off-road use!

These hubcaps stick out a couple of inches beyond the tires. Here's some photos.

Yes the aero caps will come off. They’re on there for efficiency to maximize range.

There are photos of the reveal night CT backstage with those hubcaps off. There were black alloy wheels underneath. So, it would make sense.
