I suppose the reasoning they're swapping it doesn't matter too much. But I find what Tesla is quoting as saying rather suspect. There's nothing stopping them from putting in the miles and studying their own motors. All of the earliest Cybertrucks went to former and current employees anyways. Why did they frame it like it was some random study?
Ok I see Kyle has a beast. From his X page.
Per below and figuring front motor would most likely be permanent magnet front motor.
we shall see!!

From Wikipedia for motors.
The dual-motor AWD version uses an induction motor on the front axle with a maximum output of 303 hp (226 kW) and a permanent magnet motor on the rear axle with a maximum output of 297 hp (221 kW) for a total power output of 600 hp (450 kW).[75] The tri-motor AWD version—"Cyberbeast"—swaps motor locations (PM to front axle, IM to rear axle) and adds a second induction motor on the rear axle, offering a maximum combined output of 845 hp (630 kW) in Beast Mode,[6] split as 276 hp (206 kW) for the front motor and 284 hp (212 kW) for each rear motor.

VIN 1000/Late December build here, keeping an eye on things...we're very low milage at the moment though, and also not rushing to get the wiper recall sorted.

I want all three motors to be upgraded! What the logic in just one?
My understanding is that one motor does most of the work most of the time. Permanent magnet motors can be more efficient.

I realized Tesla is upgrading the motors in the FS CTs and will install the old motors in the non-FS CT! What else could it be? Genius! It is just hard to beat the FS CT. I think you FS CT owners all agree on that!

Assuming the AWD Cybertruck manages power between its drive units similarly to the S3XY models, its front drive unit is quiescent during most steady-state and regen situations. So I wouldn't expect a faulty front drive unit would be the cause of the vibration issue some have reported... and, conversely, if a motor replacement was contemplated as a fix for that problem, it would be the rear, not the front.

The alternative being that it is, in fact, when that front drive unit is not delivering power that that motor generates the vibration.

The Beast is different.

The CT has different styles of motors, induction or permanent magnet... Perhaps only one type is the issue.. (and probably just one batch)

Took delivery of my CT on June 13th. Scheduled service for June 18th due to a vibration at highway speeds. It's still at the SC. They replaced the front drive unit once and it didn't resolve the issue. I'm waiting for another FDU to arrive. I was told it's a newer part revision. I know they have another CT at my SC with the same issue too. Also a few other folks on this forum have experienced it (see this thread). Might be related. VIN 9752.
I had this and the foam had separated in the front tires. They put on new tires and it solved the vibration.

My FS is currently in service until 10 Jul for Tonneau cover rebuild. I will send them a message asking them if my number 3202 is on the list.
I'm 2192. Pretty close numbers. If you get told to expect a motor I may ask about mine.

With various production runs, every component is tracked with which VIN it is assigned. This facilitates narrowing down to which specific vehoget the service.
It’s a typical practice in manufacturing.
I don't know if it's 'typical', but it's something you see in say, aircraft and high-tech factories.
