Test drove demo Cybertruck as a joke, ordered on the spot

Well something weird happened to me this week. Driving by the mall and saw one of the Tesla Cybertrucks. “Yikes that thing is UGLY”, I thought. What moron would own that thing? But my wife and I were bored so we stopped and did a demo to see how stupid it is because why not, right?

Well, I’m not sure what happened. Perhaps some Elon Musk witchcraft. Idk I blacked out. Anyways Im now one of the morons who owns that thing! Seriously amazing vehicle and I love the look.

Hard to explain but you know once you drive it.

Obviously scary with the recall and crazies but I’m so excited. Massive upgrade over what I’m used to driving.

The truck was on the lot but delivery is scheduled for 3/29 because of the recall. Decided on the 2025 AWD, non-foundation. Wanted a later VIN, I think I got 67kish.

Haha. Same for me. In 2021 I was waiting for a Mustang EV I ordered to come in. I was never a fan of Teslas, but I thought I should test drive one to make sure I was getting the best car. The second I pushed the peddle down during the test drive I fell in love. Cancelled Mustang EV and ordered the Tesla within an hour of the drive ?

I love this string! People just don’t get it! The Engineering. The Functionality The Cabin space, The Cabin ambiance, The Sound System, The Acceleration, The “no gas” and I can go on and on! The only solace I get is seeing another CT on the Road and knowing that they get it! And … kind of getting into quick light flash when you see another CT, although in all honesty, it took me a while to get my brain and hand trained to know where to go to quickly flash back, but I’ve got it now!

Same thing here. I’m in tech and always by gadgets and and software and always wanted the latest tech in my cars (bought 2 Mercedes, 1 F350, 1 Lexus, 1 Ford Maverick, 1 Mitsubishi plug-in in last 8 years- yeah traded money for great learning experiences) but Tesla…I never got past the range anxiety enough to go and test drive.

I put my $100 down in 2019 and in October 2024 my email came to order and I let it sit. One day early Feb after watching YouTube by Kobra Told Ya and Dirty Tesla, I took my 26 yo son for a test drive 20 minutes before they closed. I was sold instantly by the steering, cabin and tech screen.

As for range anxiety, with the current Tesla Supercharger network- there is zero anxiety. With my plug-in hybrid I learned to hate public chargers because >90% have issues and I was successful at charging maybe 10% beat scenario and the cost was 4x that of Tesla for that tiny battery.

If I could do it again, . I would definitely go Beast. (I got AWD). I would pay for full FSD. I would have installed the power wall. Everything happened so quickly and the young sales guy steered me to AWD to avoid al the problems. Lessons learned from my first CT buying.

I am absolutely so glad I have this amazing technology in my garage! My wife is not techy and has never even learned how to use her Honda app for her minivan. She sold her dad on getting a Tesla after experiencing FSD. Her next car will definitely be a Tesla…maybe CT.

It's funny how we are attracted to different facets of the Cybertruck. You like tech and gadgets, I just want the technology to disappear into the background. I don't want to think about software, settings, etc. I just want it to drive right. And yet, the Cybertruck makes both of us happy. It's loaded with great tech, but it mostly does it's job without help. Sure, you can adjust preferences in the driving dynamics, etc, but the Cybertruck is designed to be great even if you just set it once and forget it and yet it will still work great even when conditions change. You have to be driving through some pretty technical situations to have touch it again to improve it.

Most of the "tech" I think is embedded in the chassis, not to be seen by the owner. For example, the 8 electronically controlled hydraulic valves, two on each suspension damper (or "shock"). These control the flow of hydraulic fluid inside the dampers, one for the compression and one for the rebound stroke, but not much has been said about them because they mostly work their magic in the background without fuss. I know they can react in just a few milliseconds so they are an "on-the-fly" adjustment that Tesla software takes care of for you.

I suspect (but do not know) that they are linked with the steering system to firm up the outside dampers instantly, as soon as the steering wheel is turned. This would aid the flat cornering we experience.

These electro-hydraulic dampers also adjust based on road surface smoothness. They probably firm up instantly upon hard brake application to control brake dive and reduce stopping distances with sudden application. On rugged unpaved trails and roads they work to smooth out the ride as much as mossible without risking damage from bottoming the suspension. Of course, the nitrogen charged "air" suspension works in tandam with the dampers, adjusting both for road conditions and also people and cargo weight, and how it is distributed front to back (and probably side-to-side also).

It pleases someone like me who prefers to not have to mess with the controls that it does so much of it automatically. But that's not to say that you can't set general preferences as a baseline while still having access to specialty modes for very specific situations when the going gets tough. I can't say enough good about how well the Cybertruck team integrated all this stuff together. And the torsionally rigid chassis just makes the plush air suspension come alive, with no frame twisting that would change the steering geometry and make the vehicle drive in a nebulous, non-precision manner. This is especially apparent when carrying people and/or cargo of more than 1-ton, while navigating on uneven terrain or on tight twisty pavement (rough or smooth). No other truck can match the driving dynamics, it's not even close.

I know most of the reasons why the Cybertruck is so advanced, and I can explain what I know just fine. The problem is there is so much to cover, that a post like the one I just wrote above only scratches the surface. I would need twenty more like it, each one covering different systems, that are seamlessly integrated to make the Cybertruck so different from any other pickup I've driven and such a great ownership/driving experience.

It's an astounding vehicle, really. I'm not big into appearances, but I do care a bit. Which is why I'm glad I think it looks a lot better than any traditional pickup. My 2010 F-150 looks positively frumpy in comparison.

Despite Elon / Tesla haters out there, CT 's amazing truck. I have non-foundation dual motor, I love my truck everyday. I have another car but now, other car is just collecting dust ?!! . You'll love the CT!! Just ignore the many haters out there. Haha

As for recalls, don’t worry, it’s not as bad as what you read online. The only recall applicable to mine is the cantrail, but my service center said they’ve never had anyone have this issue.

Got mine in December (52xxx VIN, built on Nov 15), and it’s just been absolutely fantastic.

Same story with me - was there to test drive a Model X. Took the CT out as a joke - then did an overnight text drive the next weekend, and ordered it immediately (February 2025).

Congrats on your new truck! Something similar happened to me last Wednesday. A neighbor asked me to go with him to buy his new Model 3. I drive a Model Y (and love it) and had decided to update to the new version so I thought I might be able to test drive one. Instead I drove a Cybertruck for an hour. I'm stunned. Now I really want a Cybertruck. Still it's kind of out of my price range at the moment. Will have to see if there's any pricing changes in the next few months. Definitely will buy either the truck or the new Model Y. Wish the new Y had steer by wire. The air suspension on the truck is crazy good. Decisions...

Watching for 0% or a price drop as well. The truck is incredible, it’s just alittle bit out of reach! I think we should watch for the Q2 incentive. I think we may be able to snag one.

Same thing here. I went in last weekend to test drive the M3P thinking I was going to order it on the spot. Love the looks of it in the Ultra Red. It was out for a test drive when I got there so instead of just waiting I said, "what the hell" and test drove the truck. I still got to test drive the M3P, and it's a great vehicle. But the Cybertruck is so much better than expected, I had to go home and debate. In the end I chose the Cybertruck (ordered 20MAR, still waiting on delivery date).

You made a great choice. We have a Cybertruck and 2024 Model 3 in Ultra Red (agree, the red is gorgeous). The 3 is a great car but the CT is just on another class.
