I don’t think that’s the comments he’s talking about.

CyberRoundup Q&A:

Q: “what will be CT production when fully ramped

A: “we’re likely to do probably a quarter million a year, I think, maybe more … we don’t just need to ramp up production we also need to improve production cost efficiency, but I’d say a quarter a million a year is a reasonable guess. It might be 500,000 I don’t know. In the grand scheme of things relative to the production rate of all the other cars we make it will be small.”
I like how your posts are factual; thank you!

I woke up at 2:00 in the morning from a bad dream that I was in a Chevrolet dealership haggling over a Silverado EV. I was thoroughly confused by all the different options and prices, 4ws, air shocks, battery sizes, towing packages, pass -throughs. Then the dealer said there would be different mark-ups depending on the configuration. Also, they didn't know how long it would be until delivery, but I had to pay a bunch just to get in line. Then I realized I had just paid 10k for super-cruise and it didn't work on any of the roads I drive. Thankfully when I woke I quickly remembered that I will likely be getting a Cybertruck with the 2 options, Quad 500+, or Dual 300+ and I won't have to go to the dealership. Also, happy I didn't wake my wife to tell her about my dream.

To Chevy's credit they seem to be going to be producing a bare bones truck without 4ws, pass through and air shocks and with a smaller batter which most work trucks probably don't need. Whether they will produce these in volume and at a competitive price remains to be seen.

So, you are one of the people who predict the first Cybertrucks produced will cost $100K+?

Considering the "top of the line Model X" currently sells for $133,990.

*sigh*

Prepare to be surprised...
Actually, from a hardware perspective, it compares most closely with the $108k model. Software is "free" from a marginal perspective, so Tesla can heavily discount or include FSD for no incremental cost.

The three motor CT with a much bigger battery will cost less than this? I think it will, but how much less is reasonable?

Even at the high 70k mark GM will be losing money on the Silverado EV at least for the next 2-3 years most if not all sales will be for fleet customers who already pay a premium.

I would never buy a GM product

that's why it won't happen... Elon wants to turn upside down the truck business.

I continue to see news saying GM is ready to go bankrupt in China and their status in the US isn't that good either. I know Ford was bailed out recently but don't remember them being bailed out the first time when GM was bailed out. There's no reason for the US to bail out GM again so I have to wonder whether GM will even be able to make these trucks in a significant amount.
Ford was bailed out? News to me.

He does talk too much and says little. I'm not impressed with the Chevy for a couple of reasons. The weight is massive for less than 3/4 ton. The 400 mile range is fine, but with all of the caveats it indicates a disbelief in actually making that range even unloaded and being extremely careful. Further, Chevy has experience with their other electric vehicles, yet they maintain the status quo. It feels like they don't want to make a great product, even though they could. The information I picked from this video is that the Silverado is a compliance vehicle relying on brand loyalty. Meh.
