Carvana giving me 30k still low. I paid 52k. I'll try CarMax.
You're upset about getting more than 50% after three years on an EV? LOL. Wow! Certainly shop around and get as much as you can but $26K is more than fair. I would have expected low 20's.

My bad. But you're always going to take the biggest hit in year #1 with depreciation. That's not a new thing. It's just that EV's are having a bigger hit earlier.

As a reference, I picked up a Sept 2021 build Model S Plaid (Fall 2021 stickered around $140K) from Tesla's used web site in May 2023 for under $80K. But surely the first owner didn't get $80k from Tesla so maybe they got $65K? So that's $75+K in depreciation for the first owner who had it about 18 months!

I thought that was a smart buy...but then Tesla cut prices on the Model S and I traded in that Plaid last month on my CT. What was I offered? Just under $50K, and I only put on 7,500 miles. At least my $30K hit was less than half of the hit taken by the first owner.

Moral of the story, never be the first owner unless you're keeping it 5+ years!

The CT will see the same fate next year if non-FS are actually 80 and 100k.

Thanks man. How are you liking your CT? Whats the real world mileage you are getting out of it?

Love it. We have three teenage boys who grow by the minute so needed more rear seat space than was possible in any other Tesla. Steer by wire is a game-changer and visibility, comfort, quiet, build quality, etc are all exceptional. The sound system is every bit as good as the $5K upgraded B&O system that was in a prior Audi Q7 with more low-end thump.

Over 1,200 miles on the clock and averaging 332 Wh/mi so real-world range of over 350 miles is definitely doable and I'm not shy about stomping on it when the road is clear. My best stretch was a 140 mile day (70 miles out and then back) when it was 85 degrees on way out and 100 degrees on the return - averaged 315 Wh/mi with each leg taking less than 20% of the battery.

Cybertruck is an amazing piece of engineering, stunning work of art/design, and an incredible family short-haul or long-range cruiser. I wasn't sure it would be a step up from the S Plaid, but it has surpassed my (very high) expectations.

Not perfect though, the front center console has weird empty floor space between the driver and passenger, not safe to put anything outside a book there due to risk of it flopping or falling into the driver footwell. WIreless charging is worse than in any other recent Tesla as the charging pads don't have direct ventilation as they do in the S. No FSD yet, but not concerned as that will come soon enough. Tesla should have done a better job with the rear mirror and camera situation,, but I can see behind me out of my driver's side mirror so all is not lost!

Great to hear that you are loving it!

I'm in shambles here..My CT order is almost close to delivery date announcement and here I am...going to lose 20k in a year. Not sure if its a wise decision financially but I can't stop thinking about CT LOL

Keep in mind, depending on your state's laws, trade in values reduce the purchase price which then saves you in sales/excise taxes. If your vehicle registration fees are based on the purchase price, it might also save you on that too, potentially for as long as you own the vehicle. (I heard that's how CA registration works).

I have Model Y that I am trading in for Cybertruck. It was financed by tesla Finance. The trade in offer that I received from them includes the loan balance and that whole amount can be used as equity? Lets say I got 26k trade in offer and my loan balance was 10k. Would be using 26k as equity or 16k?
If you can swing it, you’re better off selling it privately. I just sold my 2019 Model 3 LR AWD with 135K Miles on it for 23K. All other places were offering me 10-12k for it, including Tesla.
