Here is what I’m working with:
A maxed out panel with a 30 AMP Dryer Circuit that is not in use, and a Universal Wall Connector.

Does anyone have their UWC connected to a 30 AMP circuit?

I understand this doesn’t provide the best use for the UWC, but I don’t want to install a sub panel.

Thanks to all that provide a helpful response!!

Yes. After set up, you just configure the wall connecter per the instructions, and part of the process is to choose the breaker size from a drop down in the configuration app. Once you choose 30 amp, the wall connecter will be limited to 24 amp output max, without you having to manually do anything to your vehicle.

we have had a single wall connector on a 30 amp breaker in our garage for years, with both a model 3 and X in there. When we moved in, there was a 10-30 outlet already installed for the previous owners welder. I just removed the outlet and wired up the connector and didn’t want to mess with running new wire. Charging at 24 or 48 amps.. both done by morning regardless. I did recently run new wire and a second wall connector to the outside of our house for the truck, and it’s on a 60 amp breaker. Now that I have both, I still don’t notice a difference as it’s still done by morning. And the cybertruck has been in the garage mainly with the 24 amp charging, and the X in the driveway.

hope this helps!

Usually, in a 30-amp breaker, you must use only 80% of the load and leave the remaining 20%. This will keep the breaker safe and avoid overloading, breaking tripping, and short circuits. When the load is over 80%, it will get stored in the remaining 20%, preventing short circuits and breaker tripping. So a 30-amp circuit should charge at 24 amps which is going to be a bit slow.

I have 40 amp breakers and have my wall connector stepped down to 32 amp charge and may not be the fastest but by charging at night it makes little difference to me. Just a matter of how fast you want to safely charge. If I want to step up to the full 48 amp charge I would have to go to 60 amp breakers with the replacement of my #8 wire to #6...for the time being, I am not willing to spend the extra bucks to do so.

Will work fine - nominally 24 amps (80%) to your truck. Just plug it in and forget about it!

Agreed, that is where I am at with my 40 amps BUT it is critical to step down the charger so it does not try to pull beyond the breaker's capabilities. I know you can do the step down in the app and in the truck but I just don't trust it, every night. Do it where it counts.

On my 4th Tesla - never had one attempt more than indicated on app/vehicle screen, but of course, YMMV.

I was in Cyberus' shoes two weeks ago and it did slip back to 48 amps and kicked the breakers. Why, I don't know but did not want a fire in my breaker box at 1AM so to the wall connector I went. I sleep much better, now...I ain't no electrician, that's for sure.

My experience since 2014 is figure out what works for you in your circumstances, then follow your protocol - no worries so far with any of these (P85, 100D, Plaid, Beast).
Default should be: plug it in, play with family and friends, rinse and repeat (sorry - old joke.)

Just configure the wall connector for 80% of the circuit or less and life will be good.
Charging on a 30A circuit is absolutely fine and will probably have the truck charged in a few hours.

Max current is seldom needed. Some people just have to go big.
