thanks. Still don't understand why the technology capability went down. 8 amps at 240v isn't nothing.

My guess is safety. An outlet is typically static. You don’t plug and unplug your dryer every day or every week. However with mobile charger you could be constantly plugging and unplugging. I recall some early meltdown of the adaptors or the outlets. Connections wearing down and arcing / heating up. They probably opted for a lower amperage to reduce fire risk. With the wall connector where it’s hard wired you can have at it - 60A.

If i recall correctly.... some were having issues with melted 14-50 adapters and maybe even a fire or 2. I'm guessing this was in 2015-ish. I have a couple of those from my 2014 MS and never had an issue, but they were awkwardly long once plugged in and the length and weight or the adapter would cause it to droop and not stay completely plugged in. As such, they redesigned the whole thing and the adapters are MUCH better.

Fires and melted plugged as BAD news stories for Tesla, so its just safer to cut the current and everything is cooler and less likely to cause fires. And, another upside for Tesla is it make it even more beneficial to install a wall connector which is more sales, safer, and better charging speed.

The other thing they did we nerf home charging. My 2014 MS could charge at 80 amps, my 2017 MS can charge at 72 amps, but my Cybertruck can only charge at 48 amps. I can tell you that when I charge at 80 amps, the cable and NACS plug get HOT so i just cut it back and never charge that fast.
