Nema 6-50 outlet.

The space where I park has a 240 v Nema 6-50 outlet that was installed to power a welder. My charge cable doesn't fit it but I've seen adapters that do. I'm curious if this is safe or is there some other variable I need to be aware of.

Obviously at your parking space you note that one plug is 3 prong and the other is 4. It is possible to bond the common and the ground wire on 240 to "turn 4 wires into three. In fact most 240 panels do this; but bonding with an adaptor, away from the panel, seems to present a problem in some cases.

My experience has been that Telsa chargers work most of the time with an adaptor, but the outlet at my in-laws, using an adaptor, for some reason is finicky. It works but the amperage fluctuates.

I have tried two Lectron chargers with adaptors, and neither worked reliably.

Tesla sells a NEMA 6-50 adapter for their mobile connector. I used that to connect to a 6-50 plug I use to charge at.

I use a NEMA 6-50 every night with the mobile connector and adapter I bought from Tesla. Works perfectly.

A 6-50 has no neutral. The Mobile Connector doesn't need neutral. So it's all good and no weird wiring is needed.

I checked the voltage on the box and ordered the adapter from tesla. Thanks for the help!
