it looks easy enough, is there speed or lap time records ?

Goodwood Hillclimb Records
Absolutely! The Goodwood Hillclimb is renowned for its thrilling pursuit of speed.
  • Current Record Holder: Max Chilton in a McMurtry Spéirling with a time of 39.081 seconds. This record was set in 2022 and is incredibly impressive considering the previous record held for 20 years!
  • Previous Record: Nick Heidfeld in a McLaren MP4/13 with a time of 41.6 seconds, which stood for 20 years.
It's worth noting that F1 cars are no longer allowed to compete for timed runs, making the current record even more remarkable.

The Cybertruck just ran the historic Hillclimb at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Painfully slow and hard to watch, but expected. At least it showed good power in the steeper and straighter sections (average is 5% but some sections are closer to 10%). They don't focus on times for some of the exhibition classes for obvious reasons (they are too slow to be interesting), so I don't know if there will even be an official time posted.

That's a hill?

Where's the hill?

Maybe it was going uphill the whole time and they just slanted the camera to make it look flat? ? Or this is just a very poorly named event!

"Exhibition" class is just a code word for "We are not actually risking life and machine, we are just out to participate and show off our car".

I think the history of this event is awesome. It was popularized at a time when you needed a powerful motor to place well. This course has the average grade of the kind that have diesel semi-trucks in the American West climbing highways passes at 45 mph. These days cars are much more powerful and it's more about the tires and driver skill (for the classes actually competing).

It's really just carrying on a local tradition of showing off some of the latest and greatest vehicles as well as old classics. Pike's Peak has an average grade of 6.8% and a maximum grade of 10%. The GFS hillclimb has an average grade of 4.1% and a maximum grade of 12.1%. The biggest differentiators are not the steepness of the grades but the length of the race, the safety of the run-off areas, and the lack of high-altitude at the GFS Hillclimb.
