So since the cover for the truck bed blocks the actual rear view mirror, and since some of us don’t want to relocate the live view of the rear camera to the main CT dash control screen, I was wondering if anyone who has their CT has done an up-close video of the removable rear view mirror and how it attaches and detaches and what the space on the windshield glass looks like on the interior with the rearview mirror removed. seeing how it attaches and detaches and what kind of stalk it has coming off the glass from several angles as well as what the glass looks like with it removed up close from several angles would be super helpful.

i have yet to see a video that does this but that would probably help a lot of people (including myself, obviously) decide what options may be viable for a separate virtual rear view camera feed to place where the rearview mirror goes either with something installed to replace the detachable mirror that comes with the CT or something that fits over it in terms of the screen for the video feed. would also need to see what kind of space there is (if any) to route wires to it for the feed or if it would have to be a wireless feed to make it work.

thanks for any thoughts, video links, or video posts from owners in advance.

i know many will not want this option but I have had my model S over 11 years now and every time i try to use my wife’s model 3 i’m already irritated by how much clutter there is in going from two screens to one when i drive her car. adding a rear view mirror feed on top of all that will annoy me to no end so i’m looking for an alternate plan for the rear view with the bed cover closed.

cheers

I'm gonna put a 50" flatscreen in the vault, and send the rear-camera feed to it, so I can look in the mirror and see out the back

Take a look at the Sandy Munro videos that he did at the introduction. He got a truck without the mirror.
I doubt removing it is going to a big deal, but honestly, it's a tiny thing anyway and doesn't block much.

I'm just the opposite, I can't believe why you need two screens when one does so awesome!

The Cybertruck has a bigger screen and you should be able to add it at the top of the map and not impact much.

But, it is a truck, most trucks don't come with rear-view mirrors, or it they do, they're blocked. (Think Uhaul panel truck)
You learn to use the side mirrors more effectively.

i’ve driven Penske trucks cross country several times for moves, once with a car in tow behind from Louisiana to California so I CAN drive without the rearview mirror… i just would prefer to have that view when i can for my daily driver vehicle which will be the case for my CT, and when glancing quickly at my preferred driving speeds I just find it distracting to have to find what i want on a screen filled with all kinds of other data points and readouts so for me it’s easier to keep the rear view virtual mirror separate from the screen if I can.

as far as the flatscreen in the vault goes as suggested above that’s probably a little bit impractical and not quite the solution I was looking for. 🤣

Let's say that I mount a little display above the existing display? It's in a dedicated space and you know where it is.

Move it down 2 inches. That's where you can put it.
Give it a day, you will become used to it.

I’ve been driving around in my M3 with the rear view mirror pointing up and the rear camera view up to try and get used to looking at the screen.

I wish that were the case for me. it would certainly be simpler!

i’ve been driving my wife’s model 3 intermittently for 5 years and i still hate that it lacks a second screen every time i get in it. For me it’s probably an ADHD thing. too much clutter leaves me unable to find something even if it is staring me in the face at times and her car still has a functional rear view mirror. adding the rear view mirror on top of the rest of the screen clutter will require me to glance longer at the screen to find what i need and at the speeds i drive that will quickly become a safety issue if i am looking away from the road when seconds of reaction time matter.

for many this may not be an issue and their brains will remap to glance quickly at the screen and then it will be like it was always there in that location for them. for me, i think it will be distracting given the five years i’ve had to adapt to the model 3 screen and it still annoys me. the options available on the market for video virtual rear view mirrors seem like they may not be easily adapted to the location of the rear view mirror as it resides in most vehicles and where the CT’s removable mirror is given the CT’s design so i have actually considered something like another screen on top of the one on the CT dash but I wouldn’t want to decide on that without driving it and seeing where that would fall into my field of view from the driver’s seat. so, i was hoping to get a more detailed look at the CT rearview mirror location to see if it’s a viable option or not.

cheers and thanks for the replies all, much appreciated

Understand, but the clue here is "intermittently "

I think that the biggest problem is that you have to "think" about which way to turn your head to find the information. Once your head understands to turn only one direction, it will definitely be easier.

And I'm sorry, it's hard for me to interpret the screen on the Model 3 as cluttered. It's the driver's display on most ICE vehicles that I'd call cluttered.

On the Model 3, 90% of the time you will look at the upper left quadrant, I think the same info that is on your steering wheel display. 9% of the time at the map on the right and then 1% on the info in the lower left.
The stuff in the center Model S screen (on bottom) is pretty much the same in the upper left of the Model 3 screen (on top)
