Wow this is great information. How many days do rent your cars out each month on average? How far in advance do they usually order the car in your experience? Is it usually a couple days or like a week or like the day before?

I had a look at the Turo site and by their numbers an R1T or a Hummer EV covers the car payment plus around 25% in profit. I’d be happy if it covered half or most of the payment.

I live around 10 min from LAX. I work from home now and only really go to jobsites by appointment, generally scheduled about 5 to 7 days in advance. So I could probably plan renting it out around that or keep the other Model 3 and just rent out the Cybertruck full time. Outside of when we need it for trips and working on the house. I also was never planning to be too precious about it, because it’s a truck and I need it for truck things.

any other insight regarding Turo you could provide would be much appreciated.
Usually rent about 20 days a month with built in gaps between reservations for cleaning and based on the distance from our main airport. If I were closer to DFW airport I'm pretty sure I could do everyday and just make the gaps say 3 hours in between.

Sometimes it's 1-2 days in advance, sometimes 1-2 weeks, but I already have a reservation for the last week of January that was booked two weeks ago -- an almost two month gap. I myself booked a reservation in August as a guest for three days for a trip I'm taking in February.

For you being so close to LAX you could probably have it rented out full time with just a few hours in between for cleaning. You could 100% use a bike or scooter in the bed of the CT to get home from dropoffs and to the airport for pickups.

Your main cost outside of time and cleaning would probably be airport parking fees if you're not meeting the guests for dropoffs and pickups. For our airport dropoffs I park in the parking garage at their terminal about 15 minutes before their arrival so by the time they get their bags and out to the car the parking time is less than an hour and the cost is $3 or less. For the end of the reservation we have the guests park where convenient for them and then I checkout the car soon after for that same $3 or less cost. I'm sure LAX is more ?

With the CT you may want to meet with them directly but that usually requires more coordination with their schedule so you're at the terminal when they've gotten their bags and they're ready to go as well as being there when they're ready to fly out for the end of the reservation.

[I just used their/they're/there in one sentence ?]

I found it simpler to just get their flight numbers for arrival and departure then I can best gauge when they'll be ready to check in and check out. That also gives both sides an opportunity to do full check in/check out proceeds without feeling rushed.

I think the cringiest things I've ever seen is when people ask for money to pay for a glamorous item.

Whole Mars Catalog did it best when he said he wants a cybertruck and made a fundraiser for him when he's cruising around in what looks like a new Model S Plaid making tons of youtube videos raking in probably thousands.

I'm not bitter or anything but how is it that we got so upset at Oprah and the Rock for doing a fundraiser for Maui because they are "rich" asking for us to give them money and this guy is doing the same thing?

Regardless it's just funny. But hey, like you guys said, people pay money for Only Fans and if this brings them joy for sure, donate and contribute. haha

To the OP, it's nothing against you literally. I think the whole mars thing got under my skin and I haven't been able to vent or talk to anyone about it. You actually seem like a cool guy and who'd take the truck outdoor and do fun stuff with it. I say keep making awesome content, you'll get followers and views and you'll be able to afford it eventually and make content NOBODY has seen
Yeah definitely wasn’t asking for funding. Just thinking about creating content that would generate money through views from the platforms shared ad revenue structure. Like what that guy from Tesla is doing with his Cybertruck now. Got the green wrap. Has like a couple 100k views already. So that’s like his monthly payment right there.

Wow thanks again for the input. I am going to try this out for sure. I’ll let everyone know how it goes once I get the truck.

Just wanted to chime in and say I’m doing this too! My LLC was just approved by the state of California yesterday. My background is social media marketing in tech and plan to showcase electric lifestyle and hybrid work. Would be cool to collaborate when both our channels are up and running. I have a cyberbeast foundation series ordered and space camper and unplugged performance deposits placed. Stoked to to see what this truck can do! (Or not do) Will either be an epic adventure or epic failure but I think people will enjoy the content regardless. My vote is go for it!
thanks for the encouragement. Best of luck.

It definitely could be enough revenue to take a chunk out of the payment from the attention all the videos that people have already posted are getting. Like the guy who is a Tesla employee who wrapped the truck green is doing pretty great already. We will see if he can make stuff that is interesting to watch beyond the excitement of it being the Cybertruck release window. But they have a good start to get on the search if they can keep up the traffic.

A funny thought… I wonder how many people who answered that they wouldn’t want to watch the channel already watched all the videos that every YouTube channel has put out? I bet it’s pretty high haha ?

I got the invite to order the Foundation last night.

It was going to be a bit of a stretch for me to buy the long range model at $70k (including the $10k in incentives), but I could pull it off.

As most of you know by now, this foundation series effectively adds $30k to the same model, includes about $20k in upgrades and I get to jump the line with a delivery as soon as this month, but I don’t think I can (responsible) swing it. Buuuut they are only making a 1000!!! and I really want this truck.

So here’s my thought… maybe I can monetize tiktok, instagram and youtube to cover the extra foundation payment or something through each sites ad share revenue? I already got the YouTube, TikTok and Instagram for “CyberCampers”, but was really just thinking of it as fun little personal hobby blog. Who here would like to see an ongoing blog with Cybertruck mods, accessories testing and camping trips? Something more a kin to vanlife social media channels mixed with something more educational / informative like Out of Spec Review (I know shooting really high ?).

I think it would be cool to see the + and - of trying to roadtrip in an EV instead of an ICE vehicle, but long term and in far out remote camping locations in Northern and Central America. We have friends that are out rolling around state parks in modified utility vans and shorty school busses we could visit with and compare. I have a Space Camper reservation as well. Could be interesting to try out the Tesla branded tent first and then upgrade to Space Camper whenever they launch. I had the idea back when I was finding creative ways to get the most camping supplies in and the most out of using our Model 3 for camping and multi-day road trips, but we were way too busy remodeling our house to find the downtime to put anything worth watching online. I am also hoping to start the remodel on our front and back yards and the garage, so I would be using the truck to haul materials and could test the power output with all my tools. Plus I have a solar system we recently installed, but currently no battery backup, so I could document the home battery tech and performance too.

I know. I know could be a very cringey venture that doesn’t yield a huge return. But I’m a pretty resourceful guy, I’m not a jerk, my wife is the best and again I really want this truck haha. Plus you folks could probably boost me above the monetization line, so that would clear the first hurdle and then I report back here with you all as like an ultimate hive mind / sounding board for new ideas on what to do with the truck.

My background is that I am an artist / builder and I design smart home systems for a living. My wife is a singer musician and a childcare provider. So together we might just have the chops to pull this off. I would probably have to tap my production and editing buddies to figure out how to best document and present something more compelling and polished than just posting the goofy tiktok videos that the app auto populates, but I was a video productions geek in my youth. Maybe this could work.

What are all your thoughts?

I obviously don’t have a problem over sharing. But do I really want to say “smash the like button and subscribe” for the foreseeable future? I mean if it pays for my electric camper probably.

Edit: I also know the other option is to just flip it with an exotic car broker and just wait for the next opportunity to buy one. Which is totally an option even with the no resale clause. But I don’t feel great about that idea. Not trying to knock anyone’s hustle. I get that it’s a big privilege to even be in a position to consider passing on what could be a huge financial windfall. It’s just not how I would like to get this truck.

Here are a couple pics from our recent adventures.

Don't fool yourself, The 79,990 with tax alone comes in at 84,000. No FSD. Your better off dropping out like the Ten's of thousands that have already, The next model 2WD will be in the new year at this rate... I was 330,000 in line for Non FS.. Now I'm Picking it up this month. 93,000 for FSD to be added to basic truck.
