Hello all, I already have my house pre-wired when it was under construction for a wall connector connected to a 60 amp circuit. I get 48amp charging now. Had the installer for the power share come by today. He wasn't sure what gauge wire is required for power share, if mine would work. I can't remember what mine is, but it should work right?

Wondering if he wants to run a new wire just to run a new wire and charge me.

6 gauge Thnn is Tesla's recommended wire. It also has to be in conduit.

Great. Thank you. Dumb question, whats the quick, easy way to check gauge size.

6 THHN in conduit or 4 NM if it was run in a wall. It honestly is not a good sign if the installer doesn't know that. If your current install was up to code for a 60A circuit, then it is fine for Powershare.

Install menu (prices and options are set by Tesla) includes an option for replacing your wall connector and reusing wire.

Thank you.

Where did you find that Replace an existing EVSE at?

Also, someone mentioned I need an extra wire for communication on top of the 6 gauge wire?

It's in my Powershare quote. There is a communication wire required, that may be an extra charge if it's a long cable run.

I changed my mind on which EVSE I wanted swapped after quote to one that is 75' away from my panel in a 2nd garage. My installer was going to up-charge for the additional communication wire needed, but I ran it myself. It's just shielded, 2 pair wire, common for security, 100' of it wasn't expensive.

Thank you for this.

Where do I buy this communication wire? I might hire a different electrician to fish this. The wall connector wire is in a conduit, so hoping they can fish it all the way there.

This communication wire goes to the gate way?
