I agree. I still want it but the last nail on the coffin was the trade in value for my Tesla model S. Almost 14,000 less than what I paid for 6 months ago. My heart tells me to buy it. Logic tells me to wait . The economics/wife tells me I will be a broke single man if I don't wait unit next year.
I was going to trade the Y in but then I'll lose the $7500 (7,200 in my case) on the 2023 Y....plus you always get a better price selling by owner...imo

Just spoke with the local Tesla sales person. They indicated if I procced with the purchase, 1,000 down, they can potentially hold my order for 6 months without going into the back of the queue. Has anyone been told the same? This would give more time for the foundation series to conclude.
The "reservation hold" is known. They will hold your reservation (for whatever reason you have) for 185 days. Your VIN, if assigned, will go to the next person.

I would order, have VIN assignment, and THEN request the hold to buy more time. The only caveat is that recently, order-to-VIN timelines are a lot quicker than a few months ago.

If you think it gets better with Model S depreciation have I got a surprise (and not the good kind) for you!

I picked up a Tesla Used (CPO) Model S Plaid in May 2023 for $80K. That vehicle, 18 months earlier, was $140K. So a $60K hit for owner number 1.

I thought I was smart(er?). Tesla cut prices again and now with the refreshed Model 3 Performance out my $80K Model S Plaid is worth closer to $50K on trade-in. So a $30K hit in 12+ months for me. I'm just thankful it's a business-only vehicle so have been able to recoup some of that through depreciation tax credits.

When I do sell/trade-in I suspect owner #3 will do far better - only because the max loss is capped at the vehicle becoming worthless. It's almost Mercedes/Range Rover-like!

I love my 2023 Model S. I got it used with 5,000 miles with the price well below the MSRP price. I just did not think I would get an invite so early. I thought two year of wait time was in my future. I will just hold off for now hoping on a better price difference.

It is sort of a shame with foundation series. They had an opportunity to price it premium, but give a lot more to make it feel special. Still make a good margin, but at least let people feel like they are actually getting a deal, I’ll be at a higher price point.

Again, I feel if you wanted full self drive and all-terrain and power share anyway, the tax is more like $5000, not 20. But it would’ve been cool if they gave $25,000 of value for 20 or something like that. It’s obvious that on the Internet people are going to dive in and really do the math.

Just got my request to order the Foundation Series. What happens if I do nothing and pass on it? I’m not interested in spending the extra 20K for it.
Do I just do nothing and let time pass?

The only ICE/BEV pickup trucks in demand at the moment are the Ford Ranger Raptor, Toyota Tacoma TrailHunter, Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro and the Tesla Cybertruck due to limited supplies.

Thanks. Interesting still in the rn118s. They breezed through 113-118 in a matterc of weeks, now stuck on 118s. Guessing more uptick in acceptance the 118s which represent the start of the newer enthusiasts

I saw a post from X yesterday that march/2024 order is being configured at this moment.

with this rate, I think Foundation series will end by August ~ September this year I think.

I looked at the configuration and options part and they estimated a delivery date in Sept. I’m guessing they’re going to be ending the Foundation Series option/configurator in 3-4 months since they stated they were ending making them by the end of the year.
