The only response I can think of is "Cry me a f***in river, Karen!"

"I urge you to consider rejecting this permit and forcing Tesla to delay their celebration until they start treating the community of Eastern Travis County as more than a workforce for Elon Musk, but rather as neighbors and partners,ā€ he said during a hearing that took place on Tuesday, according to local reports.

Hmm.

Apparently Iā€™m the only one who has any real sympathy for this dude.

I donā€™t think he had any expectation of getting the event cancelled. He just wanted his voice heard.

And cookies. He wanted his voice heard and cookies.

Most likely the factory is in what used to be his favorite dog-walking area. I know if I lived across the street from 1600 vacant acres with river access Iā€™d be all over that lot with my bikes.

I actually think this is part of the reason why Elon and Tesla bought this land and are building their massive facility there.
That land WAS an eco-disaster. Anywhere they build a Giga factory, there will be eco concerns. But by building it there, they can say they are improving the ecological footprint.

The turtles living there might have had a different view, but yes, the lack of seasonal drainage, that the soil had been disturbed, it was all leading to stagnant and bad water that couldn't support the normal amount of life that should be in the bottoms area. I hope they're able to put in more grass, trees, and ponds. The amount of pavement is just a travesty. C'mon, stack that parking.

While we're whining, I'm still awaiting my invitation, Elon! Hmmph

FYI, they're using remote parking and shuttle buses, so that takes all the fun out of driving the DMC.

AND, I got tickets to TeslaCon, only to have my Significant Other schedule surgery on that Friday. So instead of partying with the Tesla elite, I get to stay home and rub feet.

Great opportunity to stack parking an have solar on top.
If Austin has hail anything like Denver in the summer, you'd want to provide that anyway just so your peeps can focus on work while they're there.

Don't ask how I know this.

I used to live about 3/4 mile from the site. If you notice from Jeff Robert's original footage as they were beginning clearing, most of the site was very swampy. Trust me with the Texas humidity, heat, mosquitos and also plenty of fire-ants there, you wouldn't have wanted to spend much time walking your dog on that site. Yes a (slow) moving part of the Colorado river is there but it's not what you think. Plus many days has the smells of the sewage treatment ponds next to Hornsby Glen, blowing constantly when there is a breeze. Much better to go out to Zilker park or drive out toward Bastrop in the patches of lone pine forest areas to walk a dog back then.

It's actually a much better place to walk a dog right now, with the site developed and much of the water removed or drained. But before Elon transformed it the site wasn't a first choice to do any walking - human or dog. I'm sure there are those who will disagree, just like there is always the few who would want to get the event cancelled.

There were also some brainwashed sheep protesting Giga-Berlin opening too. Rob Mauer discussed this a little on his recent episode, and he said Austin has already approved the event anyway. So if this guy still wants attention, he will probably have to try up gluing himself down to the pavement in the middle of Tesla Road on the morning of the event. Might be a good way to get a good dose of heat stroke though (seems his brain is already fried anyways).

I donā€™t understand this ā€˜we want respect, how do you dos, and cookiesā€™ attitude. Even if Tesla was moving into a neighborhood home that kind of behavior died out decades ago. Corporations and factories arenā€™t people and what do they expect, for 10,000 Tesla employees to caravan around?

I have my own whining to do about this party. Itā€™s a private party and there is no way to show interest in attending. Either you are on their radar or you arenā€™t, and I am pretty sure I am not. So there isnā€™t much point in giving a flying $&@( about whether or not they have their private bash. Make a half-assed effort to allow people in or keep it to yourselves

They're not allowed to have a party half that big without permission. It impacts roads and services.

But yeah, honestly, they need a much, much larger party ^-^; One we can all get to.

-Crissa
Agreed. Considering this event is going to be much smaller than SXSW which just wrapped up or the Formula 1 race next month, 100k visitors for college football games, etc. I'm sure Austin can handle Elon's party even if it expands.
