It has a very easy work around. When you pull up and turn on your turn signal. Tap the menu button. go to controls, tap Open tonneau, wait for the tonneau to open. And use the physical mirror to look back, if your like me and removed the rear view mirror(because its useless), then just look over your shoulder. Then when traffic starts to move, reverse the process to close it.
easy fix

HAHAHAHA See now we are getting somewhere with these workarounds. I might just have my wife ride on the tailgate with a bullhorn and she calls out if any cars are behind me and if so how many.

One of my major complaints with this truck (and one I've seen many times online) is that you lose your digital rear view as soon as you engage your turn signal. I fully expected Tesla to update the UI so that you would get both the repeater turn signal camera AND the rear view mirror camera when turning, but nearly three model years in, it still hasn't happened. Why do you think this is?
I’ve been hitting up Ashok on X for a few years

Or a tractor trailer where the driver fell asleep at the wheel or had a medical emergency.

Google AI:

Approximately 16,800 police-reported vehicle accidents occur daily in the United States, which averages out to about 700 crashes every hour.
The breakdown of daily accidents includes:
  • Property Damage Only: ~12,000 crashes
  • Injuries: ~4,600 crashes
  • Fatalities: ~103 fatal crashes, resulting in approximately 112 deaths per day

Insane, almost 41K per year deaths per year
Mostly avoidable via semi with FSD

Would FSD evade that situation or attempt to mitigate? I would hope so but sometimes there's nowhere to go, although a slight rollout could help.

Either way I agree with the combined view feature. It's been brought up before, that's why I think of it often when I'm turning. I also don't like how rearview moves to different spots but doesn't go back depending on what you display. When I go back to full screen I'd like it on top always, not stuffed in the left side.

As a new cybertruck owner, this really ticks me off as well. The fact that I could be sitting at a red light with my turn signal on and not see an emergency vehicle come up behind me is really crazy.
Another work-around for when you are stopped in a left turn lane is to turn off the turn signal (tap the left signal button). View will revert to rear and FSD doesn't turn the turn signal back on until you start to move.

Oh yeah, this is my complaint also, its time for us all to hammer Tesla with requests for both rear view and turn cameras on during signaling......

Personally I want both the side views and the rear view at once, stitched together, but I’d be much happier with just what you want - as a start. I have submitted my request in several places but have never gotten even an acknowledgment.

That would be the easiest because Tesla already has the cameras and the feeds. An alternative solution would be Third-Party cameras and a digital mirror. There are 2 companies (GenTex and Magna) with good solutions but no aftermarket companies have made them available.

I mostly roll with the rearview camera set to off and use my roof mount digital camera in the rearview mirror. It fits very smoothly with my engrained muscle memory from ICE cars.
the only exception to this is when I use a hitch carrier or have a very full bed without a closed tonneau. I use the mirror to see the road (and occasionally bed contents) and then the tailgate camera to see some of the road but mostly keep an eye on the hitch carrier contents or the road if I’m using the roof cam to see the bed.
for my purposes, I’d prefer to have an always on option for the digital sideview mirrors.

When you turn on your turn signal, you can click the camera button on your steering wheel to cycle your camera view then swipe up to see rear and both sides. It's not dual view, but it's something.

The trucking companies want this bad. driver less trucks, safer, no breaks, no pay, no overtime, cheaper insurance, cheaper gas(take the human factor out for "Need to go 5 miles faster, to get extra miles for the day"). No truck trying to pass another truck(we call them turtle races). But there are lobbyist and unions that will do everything to prevent this.
