Well, it's a sales estimation. They can't know exactly when they run out - and worse, you wouldn't want to tell your customers; they might dither instead of acting now.

It’s only funny because yes they absolutely *can* tell us exactly when they run out by doing exactly what every other manufacturer does with limited edition runs or special editions.. they give serial numbers and a predetermined run total. E.x 10,000 and we are good to go.

This wouldn’t even be a new concept to Musk as he’s done this exact same thing with his non-vehicles, I.e not a flamethrower etc.

Why do you think that Tesla will know exactly when the buyer orders the very last one will be?

Like, why? They have X parts, and they're getting Y buyers per day slowly slowing down between orders...

You can guess, but you can't know exactly when you will sell that last one. It's not like breakfast at the fast food joint when the hold time on those eggs expires at 11:45 so you stop taking orders at 11:30.

Maybe you didn’t follow or understand the comment, but again, this is easy and a wide spread manufacturer adoption of limited edition vehicles. They have a preset determination of units to sell with the FS designation and when that run dries up, it’s done.

Parts aren’t finite to production as obviously Tesla needs them for repairs of existing customer orders.

Really what we have here is Tesla running a non-limited edition vehicle as a limited edition vehicle. There is precedent for manufacturers getting in trouble with this, such as when Ford goofed up the initial run of the 1st Edition Bronco by accidentally doubling the production volume and following it up with massive consolation and Ford pass points.. I can raise my hand personally to this having been given over 500,000 ford pass points as an apology.

Almost all limited edition runs of anything, have a final number, that’s what makes it limited. and when get one there is usually a placar that says # of #. So you know how rare it is. Tesla shouldn’t must be making them, until they run out of parts, or demand dies, they could of known, they had enough preorders to fill the predetermined number, and stuck with it.

Manufacturers have done this for decades lol. You put a name next to a vin number and viola. When the last vin is sold, you're done. The latest to do this I believe was Ford with the Mustang GTD this year. All of them have been sold.

Sure. This is why they make limited editions which are more for the notoriety of doing it than actual sales. This is why there are sometimes more special editions sitting on lots.

And even then, they don't know when that last unit will go.

Tell me you have never run a retail business by not telling me you've never run a business...

I'm confused as to why Tesla is still offering Foundation Series trucks. It was my understanding that FS was supposed to be a limited run. That was one of the incentives behind spending a full $20k more -- you get to be one of the lucky first adopters of a version that would have a limited supply.
They're not.

I'm from the future!! :D :D

I’m confused.

Alexis was on stage in Austin and received one of the fist CT’s from Elon.

I give up. You just don't have enough common sense to just accept the answer. We all know you don't like to read but this article explains it enough.

You're special. At one point in my life worked for Ducati who has quite a few serialized/numbered motorcycles. I was on a list in 2013 for BMW M3 LimeRock edition. Having personal experience with how a list and numbers works kind of outweighs unemployment and sitting on the internet pretending to know everything.

You act as though you know, when you clearly don't. I already answered that:

I've been on the list before....one of 200 special edition M3's were being built. I don't think I can make it any clearer than that. Name goes to vin.

So you're mad because you're someone that sort of notoriety works on?

-Crissa
I guess we can just end today's conversation here. I hope you have a wonderful day.
