Strange list of states. I'd love an article or video getting into the nitty gritty of how that list is rolling out. I'm assuming it's based on level of strictness a state's insurance laws and requirements are.
And probably the number of Tesla owners in each.

California is in the list.

We just banned some sorts of live updating to insurance because it was creepy and leading to abusive practices.

If that is banned, then it appears unlikely California will allow Tesla insurance. That is the meat and potatoes of their insurance.

We were the first state to have Tesla insurance.

It just can't do the thing where they track live individual gps to change rates. Just because you live on the poor side of town is no reason to charge you higher insurance.

For years I had a vehicle registered in Alaska, but insured in another state...nobody seemed to care. What's to stop someone from doing this? The car doesn't even need to be registered to be insured. And to register, you have to show proof of insurance but that tells them nothing about which state it is insured in.

If I have an address in another state where I *occasionally* live and Tesla provides insurance to that state, can't I use that address for Tesla insurance?

Thanks, maybe soon
Why? Much better options likely already available for you.

Is Tesla insurance cheaper than regular insurance?
Not as far as I've heard or read. Plus they'll want to track your vehicle data for reference. Kind of like a FSD Beta score...no thanks!

As I recommend to all who ask insurance questions on Tesla FB groups.... Just get online quotes from all the major players for YOUR best rate. Doesn't matter what anyone else pays, your variables will be different including age, address, credit score, driving history, annual usage, claims, multi-car policy, etc. etc.

I currently use Geico and saved a TON switching to them, (Top $500k converges and $500 deductibles) but you'll find examples of the exact opposite so don't take anyone's word for YOUR money or coverage. Good luck!

Statefarm sent me a tracker a few months ago stating it would lower my rate. I already get what i consider a good enough rate and think a tracker is too intrusive even if i am a safe driver. I still have it but never activated it.

I hope USAA will continue to give me the best rate. We bundle auto and home and no one has ever beat their price. I'm getting to the age where they start raising your rates like you are a teenager. I guess we will see.

Insurance companies will gladly take your money for a car you don't own in a location where you don't live. But I'm guessing they won't pay any claims.

If the policy allows it, then it's OK, but read the fine print.
