Which part do you disagree with on my politics? I'm always curious of perception since I abhor both major sides and think they're both nuts.

My shop is the neighborhood hangout. Politics, religion, and building shit.

I never carry a "laptop charger" any more.
Yep, I bought a brick of a laptop charger that interchangeably charges three devices, my laptop, my phone, and an iPad. Only thing that varies is the cables; headphones have a waterproof connector, iPad has the water resistant Lightning connector, and laptop has a magsafe connector. And the battery brick for my purse has a microusb connector because it's old and cheap.

We're not supposed to get into it, but bothsiderism only enables corruption.

That's it. I don't want politics but like economics and they thought i'm discussing politics because I favor Keynes that worked with FDR, turning around into economic boom Hoover's Great Depression, Clinton's another economic boom from Reagan voodoo trickle down economics and tax cut for the rich cum 3 recessions, Bush Jr's Great Recession cleaned up by Obama's economic recovery and lately, Trump's 22.2 million job loss and -3.5% GDP meltdown also cleaned up by Biden's 8.3 million job creation and 5.5% GDP growth.

Although it's easy to mis-interpret this as politics with that kind of pattern of economic history above and the group being advocates Keynesian economics while the other, Trickle Down-Laffer curve-Tax Cut for the Rich-Voodoo neo-economic theory.

As to religion, I don't want that too having had shouting matches with Catholic in-laws. Am a former Catholic, turned atheist, turned Evangelical and currently simply a heretic.:ROFLMAO:

Engineering? Those are my brothers and brother-in-law. I did not get the same fun out of math as my dad, a college physics teacher and my brothers. But I am an early tech adapter and can easily figure out stuff.

And even for a non-partisan and small "i" like me, I can see the big difference.

But one of the groups simply have inordinate number of outright crazies, nut jobs and low IQ accidental/faux leaders that that it can now be rightfully called a mental institution? ?

So, can we go back to my brilliant USB idea now?:ROFLMAO:

I can't tell which one it is.

I was also raised Catholic, but finally got out of it by punching a nun when I was 13. She had it coming, I assume no fault or blame.

Yup, almost did that too in high school. But she's the principal and I'm about to graduate. It cost me a place in the honor roll though.

Still which one? The one because he's just a moron, or the one because he's got dementia? Same net result.

See, that's what we're talking about the other party. The one is a moron, that we agree, the other is the lingering youthful stuttering that he still have to struggle with but has become the inspiration for other kids similarly situated.

Can we go back to how we'll all benefit from your USB rigs? As I said, I'm not much into politics.

Lol I swear mods this time it wasn't me!!

Actually come to think of it it never is... my independent views just don't align with any party. ?

And for the record, the conversation was not about USB, which everyone is a fan of now apparently, but of winches.

I have another idea (watch out - controversy ahead) how about a winch that uses the rope itself as the lever mechanism, by twisting the rope causing it to wind up on itself, and by doing so halving it's length and pulling the vehicle out. Might need a rope that doesn't fray by being twisted and one large enough that the twisting causes enough pulling force while it shortens, but it might just work.

Ranked worst to best IMO.

Air powered winch is intrinsically at a disadvantage because air is compressible. In a positive displacement motor, the stored power can be released catastrophically if something breaks. If you don't use positive displacement, then you have to use high volume fast loud impellers and deep reduction gearbox to achieve the same low speed torque. Air is out.

Traditional shaft driven PTO winches are nice if you can get em. CT simply was not deigned to accommodate that, as far as we know. Afterthought PTO drives are always terrible unless you are already modifying the vehicle drivetrain for other reasons and can slip it in.

Hydraulic winches can be excellent, but hydraulic is just a power carrier, not a prime mover. So you still have all the problems with power generation, transmission, and conversion from PTO and electric. I'd rather not introduce another petroleum fluid to CT.

12v electric winches are common, relatively compact, cheap, have several mounting options, and will continue to be used on Cybertruck as with other trucks. These could break the low voltage electrical system if the winch load is oversized compared to system ampacity. CT ampacity unknown.

A HV CT winch is a possibility. Some people will buy it, if it is an option. Could be done well.

Wheel spools and body fairleads. In a 4 wheelmotor truck with 3mm steel body, why not?
The existing wheelmotors and service brakes are more powerful than most winches. Ultimate weight savings. Carry 1-4 synthetic lines on wheel spools in a storage compartment. Simple eye bolts at the 4 corners serve as fairleads for front, rear, and sidepulls.

Driver could be at the yoke safely behind ball bearing resistant glass, and doing a dual line pull, with fine control of individual wheel/line speeds in/out simultaneously. A CT could be hanging from a cliff face, anchored at 2 widely spaced points at the top, and traverse sideways by pulling one line in at the same rate letting out the opposite side.

The best part, is no part.

Edit: It has not escaped my attention that I said "Afterthought PTO drives are always terrible" and I am essentially describing an "Afterthought PTO drive".

Because it's three-phase and not a standard outlet. That's its point.

I wired my own 240v EVSE for my Zero motorcycle. Which answers your next question....

Yes, I do.

And you're pedaling nonsense. What's in the breaker box or delivered to special equipment is not household voltage. What's in the wires to standard level 1 outlets is household voltage.

Let's see you plug your toaster into three-phase instead of household voltage and then tell me again that three-phase is household voltage. Or, actually please don't, because that's super-dangerous.

Give some guys a little knowledge and they get all huffy. Why is it you see a risk, and you want to pretend it doesn't exist?

Sheesh.

-Crissa
Crissa, I respect your knowledge and contributions.
Just wanted to point out that 240V in a home is not 3 phase and it definitely is a "Household Voltage" in the US even though US household convenience outlets are 120V.

3 phase is used for generation, long distance transmission, and often (but not always) local distribution, and industrial 480Delta/277v line to line use.
Pole transformers may convert 3 phase distribution to single phase 240v line to line/120v line to neutral at the household level.
If you live in a multi-unit apartment complex in the US, you may actually plug your toaster into a 208Wye/120v line to neutral 3 phase system.

I am not an electrician, so my understanding could be wrong. Please correct my understanding in that case.

US homes have two hots from the power company, called residential split phase. You get 240v across them and 120v to ground, which inside the home splits off to a neutral and ground. They both go to ground outside. Inside, the ground is a safety backup for the live neutral. It's just that simple. Super simple really. Some outlets get both hots plus ground only. This is for appliances that run on 240v only. Some get four wires, so they can run 240 and 120 in the same unit. Such as a heating element and a timer or display.

Our Tesla charges from a 10-30 receptacle, which has two hots and ground. There is zero need for a neutral on a car charger.

Simple, if you agree with me, you are in the right. If not, you are in the wrong.
