I consistently hear people claiming that Tesla would sell more CT's if it "looked like a normal truck."
The data does not appear to support this. The F150 Lightning looked almost exactly like a normal F150 and it failed in the market.
The Silverado EV and Sierra EV look "normal" and they are failing in the market.

I am purchasing a CT specifically because of the stainless steel and the fact that it does not look like every other truck in the parking lot.
This is my first truck, I do not actually need a truck, the futuristic look, no paint, and durability of stainless are my primary reasons for choosing it over a model S.

Why I bought a CT:
I needed a truck:
NO
FSD: YES
It is a Tesla: YES
Stainless Steel: YES
Futuristic look: YES
4 wheel steering: NO
I wanted a stainless steel urban tank for my family: YES
I like to be different: YES

Year-to-date sales figures (Q1 2026) for major battery-electric (BEV) pickup trucks in the U.S. include:
  • Tesla Cybertruck: 3,519 units
  • Ford F-150 Lightning: 2,060 units
  • Rivian R1T: 1,658 units
  • Chevrolet Silverado EV: 1,406 units
  • GMC Sierra EV: 1,288 units
  • GMC Hummer EV: 1,653 units

I just want a Tesla truck. I could take or leave the aesthetics of it. If a Tesla truck looked like the new Scout, that would be my first pick. I love the look of my 5th Gen 4Runner, that could be a nice looking truck too.

I think Tesla would have been much better off creating a small pickup as opposed to a full size truck. The Scout seems to be a good size target.

The f-150 and Silverado EVs did not fail because they look like a regular truck. They failed because they are made by ford and Chevy. Those companies don’t know how to make a good modern vehicle. It’s all about the software, and Tesla makes good software.
My dad has the EV Porsche and the EV hummer. And hates the way my Cybertruck looks, and isn’t a fan of Elon, but every time we take my CT someone he loves the screen and all the software features. He was also bragging about how good his autodrive in the Porsche was, until he experienced the FSD in the CT. It’s not even comparable.

It cannot be a "macho" and "manly" truck without duallies and smoke stacks.
I think it looks like a Cylon.

LOL. Not many people actually need a dually. And smoke stacks are a fancy way of saying "I'll never need to use the bed of this truck".

Plus, That's one hot Cylon. Just saying.

(I get you were probably being funny. I hope so.)

Yeah only time will tell how the scout does assuming they figure out the tech and manufacturing. I think Slate has the potential to take over the budget market. A super simple bare bones truck that is infinitely customizable. 3d printing fills will have fun with it. A great first vehicle.

Agree to some extent, I had a lightning and went to the cybertruck.

F150s are amazing pickup trucks and the lightning is just like a traditional F150 but electric which is great but highway range specifically was very limited.
Tesla make the best electric vehicles, tech, FSD, turning radius, real world range and charging network are on a different level.

I didn't like the look of the cybertruck when it first came out but I test drove one when I had the lightning and realized how much better it was while still retaining the pickup bed and snow capability. After having it for almost 18 months I still see it as an incredible vehicle (and I typically swap trucks/cars frequently.....I frankly am itching to jump into something else but the FSD spoils you so much it is hard to give up, combine it with all the other features/capabilities and it is a no brainer to keep the CT)

Fromer Rivian R1T owner and F150 owner, traded those in for a CT becasue it didnt look like a normal truck and was better truck for our multi camp travel work lifestyle :) Also so many less issues with this truck then both of those prior trucks i had which both lived in the shop. Would never go back i would by another CT before any of those again. Next time it will be a beast!

good point about less issues.....coming from 2 raptors (one with the starts of cam phaser tick) and the lightning with various recalls and a few issue (relatively minor and fixed under warranty but still a hassle).....along with a wrangler that I have (easy to fix myself but lots of little issus from time to time)....it is nice with the CT pretty much hassle free

the day/night of Cybertruck unveiled I reserved it b/c it doesn't looked like any other legacy truck. I still have the reservation hoping Tesla will produce a smaller Cybertruck.
