Cybertruck is not a combat vehicle. The point is that the exterior is strong enough to resist small arms fire, and will therefore laugh off door dings and stray shopping carts.

I agree with you and my main need is to be dent & scratch resistant against door dings and stray shopping carts.

In the almost 4 years since the original Cybertruck unveil in 2019 Nov I have not seen any youtube video of tests of door dingers and stray shopping carts against 3mm cold-rolled hard stainless steel.

But there are sure plenty of videos regarding guns and this just raises probability the thugs and people with mental problems to act out on us future Cybertruck owners.

If the Cybertruck windows are much weaker than the steel then it will not stop any car-jackers or road-ragers who probably aim at the glass. The closer the assailant is to the vehicle the more chance they will hit the glass and also the easier it is for them to shoot down into the vehicle thru the glass.

From the beginning all these gun examples from Elon & Tesla were not necessary and will increase incidents in the future.

I agree and am not happy about Musk's rhetoric. This is NOT the correct kind of advertising. It's going to mean that owners need to keep a gun with them inside the vehicle to respond to yahoos out there.

One thought I had as to why the rounds are mostly into the Door panels. It would be easy to replace the doors on this specific vehicle. so why damage the rest of the truck...

It is amazing to me that people do not grasp the point.

Does not mean you should build boats out of tape

Does not mean you should taunt the Grizzly bear because you are in a Silverado.

Yea, not bullet "proof"

Title: Cybertruck-ish 1/8" 304 stainless vs 9mm and a few more

Why do people keep posting examples of weaker metal than the Cybertruck and pretending it's the same thing? Elon said the Cybertruck would be made of stainless steel hardened to a "ultra-hard" condition. The metal plate above is only half-hard. It's a false equivalency.

I counted 71 bullet impacts. Possibly 1 chambered round + 70 RD drum mag.
I counted 73 dents. If they used an actual Tommy Gun, they normally have either a 50-round or a 100-round drum.

Goalposts..? lmao this isn't a debate, the goal is to not die when being shot at
Yeah, but what about when you're being shot at by a 50 caliber rifle like snipers use?

Or how about armor piercing bullets?

The whole moving the goalposts is stupid. If it would handle a high-velocity rifle round, then Elon would have said it would handle a high-velocity rifle round.

No, it won't save you from a direct hit with an air to ground missle either. It stops the most common handgun rounds. That's it. The most powerful handguns will go right through it, albeit with less remaining energy after penetration.

But here's the thing:
No other car stops the most common handgun rounds, not without ordering an expensive armoring package. Aftermarket armor packages are expensive and invasive, they involve considerable labor, and add significant dead weight to the vehicle. Most people would love to have additional armoring if it didn't come with the additional weight, time and effort of getting it installed and was free. It's not, so almost no one finds it worthwhile, even though armor packages can be purchased and installed to withstand some pretty impressive rifle rounds. Install such a package on the Cybertruck and it will be that much better!

The entire point is the Cybertruck comes with a level of protection not found in any other vehicle, and it does it as a side benefit, without having to pay extra for it. It's one of the built-in advantages of Tesla's exoskeleton design. So let's stop with moving the goalposts to places they have no business being moved to. The presidential limo won't stop a tactical nuke either.

Exactly. I wish Tesla would stop doing stupid crap with the prototypes. It just gives dumbasses and EV haters ideas.
Dumbasses and EV haters don't need any encouragement, they will always be dumbasses and EV haters. You can't fix stupid.

I don’t think you can get to your second point from your first assertion. I think this is much ado about nothing. Almost everywhere in the US we are talking a serious felony, and multiple felonies if there is anyone anywhere even NEAR the vehicle. The bangers that might shoot at the CT are going to shoot at the CT anyway because you’re gonna get jacked. And the psychos who have guns, were just as big a threat before the CT launch as they are now. I’m not the least bit concerned. And I live in SoCal, home of the drive by.

That test just doubled the value of that particular vehicle.
Don't "fix" it.
