As all current badge owners of failed PCS know this part failure has caught on like wildfire.. I just picked up my CT after getting the new revised part installed "G" and my SC has told me they are swamped with PCS failures.

I proceeded to inquire about cost to replace the part if I was without warranty and they stated that the cost to replace was around $4,000 but due to high failure rate the new cost to replace is around $1000.

This news might alleviate some stress for those without warranty.

This comes from Naperville Service Center, here near Chicago..

this is wild. at what point does it turn into a recall?
The PCS failure mode hasn't produced safety issues. I'm not sure what you mean.

Tesla has been proactive. What else do you want them to do?

Here is the way I view op service comments if real:

If it got out that basically if you buy an 80k truck, at some point this failure will happen. If post 50k in miles it turns out to be a $6000ish repair. That is not a good look for potential buyers or Tesla.
So lower the cost till we figure it out without recalling. That price point for an unknown repair is too big. Will scare customers if they know away.

Comment from a local employee sounds somewhat right, but details sound meh.

The fact that SCs are acknowledging that they have decreased pricing indictating Tesla is acknowleging this as a widespread issue vs issuing a recall is absurd. This is exactly why Tesla gets hate for reliability. Proactive vs band-aid bullshit they do to owners is irritating.

Not true, after my badge and before my appointment, I was working in a rural area 100 miles away from any Supercharger and towing 5000 pounds. My only alternative was 3rd party chargers and this was not a place you wanted to be after dark. IF (and I was not) I had been stranded there, I would have definitely felt unsafe, luckily I was not stranded, but it was certainly a point of constant stress throughout the day.

I think that we’re actually the ones being proactive. I guess bricking the truck isnt technically a safety issue, but its a pretty big pain in the ass.

Id suppose like them to publicly acknowledge that they have a part that is seeming to be guaranteed to fail and then just tell us all to come in to get it replaced free of charge? Its not like its an air filter….its buried in the bowels of the car and requires a lot of disassembly to replace, hinting that it wasn't intended to be regularly accessed for service. The failures have now gotten so common that there is now a parts delay.

you're supposed to “get what you pay for” right?

btw I own tesla stock and am very much invested and hopeful for the company. the CT is the best car ive driven and owned. its ok if I dont like some aspects of it.

Did you buy a first of it's kind, Gen 1 product while expecting it to be statistically perfect with no bumps along the way?

I sure as hell didn’t buy it expecting to pay 6K at 51K miles because of a known defect.

exactly. and again im team tesla. we own two of them, and ive conviced friends to buy them. im fine with beta testing fsd and getting the updates, thats cool. im also fine adding additional waterproofing to improve the vault, its totally fine that the noise cancelling feature doesnt actually cancel noise. I also dont mind that I dont have a solar tonneau, 200mi less range, ASS, self presenting doors, etc etc.

I was even cool with the price increase, because I bought one.

Becauuuse of that, I (and a couple of others, it seems like) do mind that there seems to be a critical part of the electrical system that appears to be failing fleet wide…its cool if you dont mind.

if/when yours fails are you going to get it replaced?
